Hey guys!

A lot of people have been saying that its pretty much impossible to beat a solid tau list with daemons. The reason being that we don't have armor and will just die easily to mass shooting. Tau so easily gain skyfire or the ability to shoot well at flying that our FMC also dies pretty quick to focus fire which leaves us with little options.

I was wondering what tactics and units you guys have been finding effective against tau armies. I know some people have had success with screamerstar (screamer council).

Thanks!

I STRONGLY disagree with this. In my opinion Daemons are the army with the BEST chance of anyone to beat Tau. Stacking forewarning with grimoire on a screamer council comes to mind with a rerollable 2++ and a turn 2 assault.

Flesh hounds make a mockery of gunlines when used en-masse.

LoCs grimoired and forewarned also can be absolutely devastating, firing Str 5 AP 4 shots into firewarriors.

I'll preface this with saying I've yet to play against new-Tau with anything, least of all my daemons, but yeah, they don't worry me overmuch.

Just ram some of our excellent fast assault units down their throat (hounds or seekers) don't swoop with the FMCs, and use cover (hopefully to remove LOS) or simply DS them, as by the time they arrive, hopefully a good portion of the gunline will be tied up by the aforementioned Khorne dogs or Seekers.

I'm not saying they're rock to Tau's paper, but they're much less of an issue than say, trying to beat Nids with my BA.

I generally dont have trouble with anyone when I have 5 FMC on the board but in a lot of people are swearing that Tau are the bane of every assault army. I guess if you try to play daemons as horde you would have trouble.

Not when you're piling in a turn two assault, if you go first, they get one shooting phase, and that ain't enough.

I certainly won't be swooping any FMCs though, and if I were to tailor, my Nurgle Grinder might get an outing with the torrent gun.

Daemons vs Tau is extremely swingy. Some games tau will knock everything out of the sky, grimiore will never go off and the warp storm table ruins the demon's day. Some games Deamon's will pass all of its ground check, they roll all their invul saves and turn two they will have 5 FMC in assault. And it can be one thing that ruins anyone's day, like a bad roll on the warp storm or no 6's even when you are in triple tap range for your 12 firewarriors.

As general rules for tau:
Castle up, use kroot to bubble wrap your army
Avoid shooting at anything with the 2++ grimiore buff
if something is holding the grimiore and it don't have the buff kill that unit
focus on anything that is grounded.
