Hey,
I want to start a second army in a lower point scale (not more then 25 in the foreseeable future) and my single most important focus is to have a army that as different from Khador as possible. Altough I enjoy the honest axe-to-face approach I would like to have a new gaming experience. Right know I am interested in Cryx, Cygnar. Legion of Everblight or Circle.
To safe some bucks I´d like to start with a Battle Box, is there a faction I´ve listed that has a significantly better starter kit?

The two Hordes factions are probably the most different. Cryx seems to share a common theme to Khador in that both play with a bunch of infantry and few jacks. Legion and to a lesser extent Circle can both function well with only their beasts and a few support models.

if you've got a warmachine army, go with a hordes one. they're all quite different to the infantry heavy "direct damage" approach of Khador. warlocks, warbeasts, and fury are a nice change of pace.

Of the two - circle and everblight, id go with circle myself. Everblight feels like a more straight forward "dragonspawn to face, backed up by lots of doods with bows". Circle offers a lot more tricks (magic denial, teleport shenanigans, terrain manipulation and creation) whilst still being able to play control/denial, attrition, alphastrike, assassination. they arent as overtly attritional (although there are builds) but they can hit like freight trains when its needed, with very good melee, and decent ranged output.

I play khador and circle and genuinely enjoy the difference in pace and playstyle. right now, im very much in a circle way of thinking (got a wee bit burned out with khador), and doing a local journeyman league with retribution, but once i get vlad3 painted up, and with butcher3 on the horizon, i'll be returning to the motherland.

I'd have to say circle is the most opposite of khador. You have a lighter armored agile hit-and-run force with very little ranged support.

Legion is a great counter option to Khador if you're looking for low cost of entry, a decent battle box and plays very differently to Khador.

1. Both iterations of the battle boxes are valid and fun to play. I prefer pThags to pLylyth, but both are good times.

2. Legion tends to be beast heavy and light on infintry which has two applications to your request. Lower cost due to lower model count, and playing heavies instead of infintry spam is a totally different experience.

3. Legion has a lot of different casters and play styles available.

Honestly, pick whatever faction hits your geek button and try it out, since a second faction generally is for funzies anyways. I'd also recommend Convergence of Cyriss since they are new, have a unique play style and is different enough from the basic Warmachine Focus mechanic to be interesting and is similar to Legion in being Jack heavy. It is also a self-contained faciton which is fantastic for a second choice in order to keep your collection from growing out of control.

Good luck!

Circle is probably the most dissimilar to Khador. Legion beasts are still durable and hit like a ton of bricks. Circle is very much a glass hammer.

Why choose? Get the Hordes two player box.

Templar, Legion beasts are also of the glass cannon variety. They're above average to hit, but have average armor with below average HP. Sure they have popular defensive buffs, but that doesn't mean they aren't easy to kill once hit. Trolls are the most similar of the Hordes factions to Khador. For most opposite, I would have to agree with Circle. They are very much an attrition army and picking their fights carefully. They have the speed to setup their own matchups, and break through where needed.

Definitely Circle

I'll be honest with you, as a Legion player, I don't use a single thing from the starter box. The Carnivean heavy warbeast is very solid and can find a place in many many lists, however I do not use the Shredders and pLylyth isn't in my top 3, maybe not even top 5.

With that said, it's possible to not use anything from ANY starter box, sure, but I see the Trollbloods beasts making it in to more lists for example.

Also if you end up getting the Legion/Circle battle box, I think you'll be pleased and have a little more variety to see which you like better. To me, the Warspears generate no interest to me, but the Skinwalkers are very sweet - if nothing else it's a killer deal.

A Legion player who doesn't use shredders? What is this heresy

I think both Legion and Circle qualify.

I play Legion and Khador, and having started into Warmachine with Khador, I really had some trouble understanding how to play Legion when I started them. I'm still not completely clear about that, having only really played with two casters.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

Trolls do use Axers and Impalers, but they rarely use 2 Impalers at a time.

I almost never see a Legion list without Shredders. But again, rarely do I see 4. One or two at most.

Squatting with the squigs

Though not the opposite of khador, i think skorne do a great job of being beast heavy and troop light.
I'm picking up skorne as a 2nd force as they fit my vision of how i thought khador would be .

I play Khador and for opposite play style it would be Circle, but personally I think for playablity and not being limited like Khador I would go Legion.
