Just got back from a tournament last week and I had a game against a circle player with some rather dubious rule desicions, i.e. Berserk only makes one attack and doesn't keep going, yet the same player threw a Warpwolf stalker into combat and got 5 berserk attacks from him in a previous game... my mistake for not taking it up with the TO really but I wanted to double check can you make free strikes if you are engaged, as I've always thought that if a model is fighting another model it can't then take a swipe at someone running past them. I may just have imagined that part of the rule, but when this same player argued with the TO that a model using bulldoze doesn't continue it's normal movement, having come into base to base with a model that then got pushed I'd rather just ask for future reference.

Thanks

It depends on the context. Normally it can, but if you manage to block LOS to the model which is running by, then you can run through without a scratch. So if you jammed some small based infantry base to base with no gaps and cover the entirety of the front arc of the Stalker, another small based model could run by, passing within the 2" reach, without taking a swing.

At least that is my understanding. Else if you had something engage the B13, you'd walk Watts in, and then walk Ryan out, and say 'I can't get free strike'd because Watts is engaging you'...God I wish I could do that.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Just reread my original post and realised I never put the example down

Basically a Doom Reaver and a druid were in base to base directly facing each other down the middle of their bases a second Reaver charged past the Druid/Reaver combat and got sliced, think I was about an inch away so I would've been in his melee and I didn't block line of sight... drat... Was a little preoccupied with the very exposed eKaya I guess

I see what you mean though, I think I'm getting my systems mixed up, played one game of Malifaux and I think disengaging strike and free strike must've been mixed up in my head

I haven't gotten into Malifaux yet (just painted Kaeris, but nowhere near here really plays) so you could well be making that error, but I have no idea about that game's rules.

Being in melee doesn't stop free strikes.

The only thing that stops free strikes is being explicitly immune to them or if the model in question is unable to make melee attacks for some reason(out of command, knocked down, no LoS, etc...)

If melee stopped free strikes they would be much less dangerous.

You can definitely make free strikes when engaged and beserk does keep going until you don't make a kill or you run out of models (friendly or enemy) who are in your melee range.
