Hey guys!

I've just recently picked up the rule book and the new codex for lizards. I've been playing 40k for some time, but fantasy has my attention. I'm more of a painter than a player - takes a lot to make it out to game nights. I don't know the first thing about fantasy but I do know I love these lizard models.

I need some help with a rough list, 1500-2500 point list to start buying and painting. I don't want a horde as I like detailing the models (check my forum name for my purple grey knights). I'm looking to have a few carnosaurs, maybe a slaan priest and those ripperdactyls. Something I could play at 1500 and just add models to make it 2500.

I know you've seen these posts before but help me make a competitive list with the above stated. I will have many questions as I read more through the rules and codex.

Thanks!

First off, they are army books.

Slann are still amazingly good. Saurus are too. Temple Guard to surround your Slann. The rest is what you like. Skinks can throw a lot of shots but they knocked their LD down 1. Having even 1 Kroxigor in there can be useful.

The big spell things are now bound spells and I don't like that because it takes dice from your Slann. Salamanders and razordons are good.

Army book, thanks!

Are carnosaurs no good?

Carnosaurs are fun but not the greatest. Put them on a Scar-Vet so you can keep your points free in the Lord slot for a Slann. A Slann, even with their recent nerf, are a cornerstone lord.

Skink Skirmishers and Chameleon skinks are great too for harassing units, hunting monsters and war machines.

Canifex Quote: I love Rhinos. They are crunchy on the outside, and soft and chewy on the inside.

Carnisaurs are good. The problem is they aren't stand-alone monsters they are mounts. You can do some stuff with a scar-vet. I just don't know if it's better to have more smaller heroes like skink priests. With a piranha blade on a vet and carnisaur you could have like 8 (9 frenzy) attacks that do D3 wounds each + thunderstomp. That would rip multi-wound units apart.

Sounds good. What's a sample list? Are the bastilodon good?

I think they are. I don't think the zappy laser gun is as good, unfortunately.

Yeah, I think a Slann, a Scar Veteran on Carnosaur and a Bastilidon would all work, and would take up a lot of your points, reducing the "hordish" nature of the army. Salamanders, Razordons and Ripperdactyls are all good units that sit in a "mid-points" range.

Also, as a heads up, due to the way Fantasy's percentage army selection works (i.e. you can only spend 25% of your points on Lords), most fantasy games tend to be a multiple of 400 (because people like easy maths). Therefore, I'd work towards a 1600 list, as opposed to a 1500 list.
