So I was having my usual Saturday (i.e going up to my FLGS I go to after I am done with my shift at work to get in some games of Warmachine and/or hopefully Infinity) and to continue a league that is going on for my Warmachine/ Hordes group. When I came in everyone was playing a game already for the league and space was limited today. Also the Infinity players were here since they meet once a month, so I though "Hell, why not, lets get a game of Infinity in so I can learn the game much better." I read up on most of the rules, but for this game since the low model count, we kind of ignored the In Retreat rules (And no pics to this, sorry :( )

We used what I think was both the Starter sets for PanO and Yu Jing, also we used Doctors on both sides just so the person playing me can get a good idea how everything works without taking too much in.

We rolled for initiative, in which I failed mine completely with a roll of 16 and he succeed with a 7 (I was running a Fusilier as the Lieutenant). He chose to go first for turn order, so I went first for deployment. He deployed in some rocky crags on one side while I deployed in some ruins of some buildings, with most of my models hugging the walls for cover except my Trauma Doc to respond and heal my units that unconscious (Which proved to be a fatal mistake) and the Crocman hidden deployed withing some ruins close to half-way to the table to surprise him.

Turn one:
Opponent moves up with his multi-wound model (which I forget the name to for now) with most of his orders, he takes out my Fusilier first and then my Trauma doc so both go off the board.

I move my other Fusiliers into better position for cover and move up to try and get better positioning while getting some cover as I advance. Croc man pops out of hidden deployment to get some shots onto him by surprise (as I roll poorly for trying to get 15s....),wounding him once, but he fails his guts check and hides finally in the cover more. Croc man also tries to get into better cover but a bit close as he is still in TO Camo.

Turn two:
Opponent gets his multi-wound guy activated, spends an order to move and shoots my Croc man with a teartrop template weapon (I think it was a light Shotgun or flamethrower, I cannot really recall). He makes is armor and guts roll, but he is broken out of TO. Next order he kills the Croc man due to poor rolling for my ARO on my part and getting critted on him.

Try to get into better cover as all shots roll poorly, and lose another in the process.

Turn three:
His multi-wound model starts moving around again, he takes another Fusilier as he also engages the ORC and kills him off due to my poor rolling of my armor rolls, but it leaves me with only one Fusilier left since he managed to kill the rest of my army. But I managed to kill his Multi-wound model.

Surprisingly, I made a comeback with that one Fusilier and I won the game as my rolls actually rolled pretty well near the end. I was rather surprised I could make a comeback like that and how fast the game went. Granted this was a rather small points game and kind of more causal since it was me still trying to learn some of the rules. Overall I say I had a rather fun time with it, considering it was kind of my first real game into it. Again, sorry if I do not know too many of the models names, I am still relatively new to Infinity.

Glad to ear you had your fun.

The good thing about Infinity is that it is very often possible to get back into the game. In some circumstances, like in the official ITS missions, breaking your opponent and forcing him into Retreat! is not a really valid tactic, as it ends the game at that point, which means if he had done more objectives than you by that point you might still lose, even though he was in Retreat!

I think that sounds a bit silly (well coming from a Warhammer 40k/ Warmahordes background that is), but then again, I am still relatively new to the game.

Depends on how you wrap your head around it. Think of Infinity missions as Spec Op clandestine operations. When one of the teams broken the Command orders an Airstrike to clear the area, to deny the resourcesthey didn't get to the enemy.

Or when one of the forces retreats, the Op stops being silent and the force that lost goes to the O-12 to deny the enemy the resources they lost.

I think I can get what you mean with that, and I guess it does make a bit more sense. I apologize, I am still used to the 40k/ Warmahordes thought of objectives when it comes to that (although destroying objective markers to get points in Warmahordes can be slightly of the same idea of what you are talking about).

For example in the beacon mission with the 3 things you need to activate, yoy could have 2-0 in activated beacons but have just 1 volunteer hiding at the back of the board. The enemy would get the army destroyed points but you would win on objectives.

This would be because the beacon being active would have finished downloading a virus/been picked up by your reinforcements in space/stuff like that. So while you lost the most men you completed the mission while the enemy failed.

And in 6th ed 40k it has become a bit more like that, hell look at Ailaros' most recent batrep, the 'too much dakka' one

It's very nice playing games that are more about objectives than outright killing your opponent. Having an army all but destroyed and still winning because you paid attention to objectives feels good.

Also, about the brutality of the game. This is something the game doesn't get enough credit for. If someone gets the drop on one of your guys, it's very likely going to die. When you're playing on small boards, or a big board but deploying on long edges, this is amplified. In turn 1 someone can really hurt your army in a well planned alpha strike.
