In anticipation of seeing Endless (and Brushfre) models possibly sometime in the next month I've pulled my terrain projects out and started a thread to show my projects to people and hopefully painted models and battle reports as well.
I have been playing around with different materials as potential terrain/boards for Endless. The first is a pegboard play surface. 1/4 inch pegboard with holes 1 inch apart gives an instant grid. I just cut it down to size leaving half an inch around the end to make it look cleaner. Green spray paint for color and I've got a regulation 20x20 square board thats ready to be populated with terrain. The foam blocks are the start of 2 and 4 elevation high rock outcroppings.
This is some grey vinyl floor tile I picked up at a surplus building supply store for 25 cents a tile (one foot square.) I had to grid them myself. I drew the grid on the tile and went over it with a rotary tool. The tile is brittle so I need to back it with something like the pegboard before using it. it is a simple way to get a dungeon feel without bringing out the paints.
The large elevated piece is made from part of an old light fixture and topped with a piece of tile. It happened to be exactly 7 inches wide. In play I would not allow models to occupy the half squares under the overhang. I have enough tiles to build 1-2 20x20 boards with a variety of terrain. Now all I have to do is get to work on it.

Thats some creative use of hardware supplies, I love seeing these kinds of conversions.

I've been putting some time in on hills for my Endless board. I'm trying out different techniques and colors. For now I'm using them as movable terrain pieces. Once I find some things I like I plan to build a permanent, full foam board or two.
Rock Formation - I am happy with how this one turned out. It raises 4 elevation levels. Even Jump 1 models can make it to the top, but it just takes them longer.
and from the other side
Earth/Dirt Hill - I wanted this one to be more smooth and gradual. I didn't gouge out the grid lines as I did with the rocks, instead I marked the grid points with static grass. The hill raises up three levels and drops off on the far side. I'm not completely satisfied with this one. Something about it is not quiet right. It reminds me of a sheet cake. I think I will try a similar one painted grass green instead.
Here are the two pieces along with more soon to be hills on my 20x20 endless board. This elevation could be a real game changer!
If I'm really clever I will make pieces that can fit right up next to each other like a puzzle, for constant elevation changes.

I really like the rock formation, including the way parts are under cut to make it look more natural, despite being essentially cuboid.
As is, doing individual terrain pieces is not a bad idea to allow you to change up the field each time you play.

With my first On the Lamb shipment in hand I have been working on cleaning models. I have some time off next week and hope to get some minor conversions done and get painting started.
I am happy overall with the models. Some of the ones I had reservations about, like the sorcerer and the dwarf, look better in person.
I'll try to get some pictures and more thoughts together by the middle of next week.

I've heard a number of people worry about finding terrain to use for Endless. Since I am still waiting on three Kickstarters of dungeon tile terrain that I picked up for Endless among other things, I had to take matters into my own hands.
Here are more hills I threw together over the weekend. All in all it just took a few hours for cutting, gluing, and the base coat. Now I just need to dry brush and add a bit of flock. All it took was a sheet of half inch pink foam, hobby knife, glue gun, and cheap paint. I still have half the foam left too.
Set up as one big hill...
possible board set up. Ugh, totally out of focus...

That little bluish 2X2 is my ice/snow paint scheme test.
The glare in the last picture is a few water terrain card dungeon tiles from one of the D&D sets. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Nope... I did forget to mention the pen and ruler I used to draw the grid lines.
Steps:
-Draw grid on foam
-Cut foam only grid line into small pieces
-Stack pieces into hills
-Glue
-Cut in grid lines, undercuts, cracks, etc. **This part takes the longest. I've found that the more cutting I do the better it looks.**
-Cover with paint. I use house paint seconds (50 cents for 7 oz.) because for once I want to obscure fine detail.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Some WIP pics
This is how it all starts out.
You can see a pile of shavings from carving up the hillside.
All the sculpting/weathering was with an Exact-o knife.

Looks like it'll be a fun board to play on. When I get to that point I want to try and make a couple buildings and stuff, so I can do the board like it is a raid on a small town or village.
The terrain does look a bit better once you hack into it a bit. Good work so far!

Though most of my free time recently has been spent dealing with a new home and moving, I did find a little time to throw some paint on a few gels.
Gel Warrior - I might do a little bit more highlighting once I unpack my paints, but mostly done.
Frost Gel - the sword went missing, so I converted him up with a nearby axe. still WIP, as I threw paint on some surfaces just to test the color scheme.

That ice effect looks really good! Is that just dry brushing or did you do something else?

Great job on the Gels. I especially love the way the blue one is painted (and the axe was a great touch).

Yah the frost gel is just a base coat and single color dry brush. There is another highlight color I didn't apply yet. The paint is actually Game Decor's Arctic Glacier color pallet from a terrain paint Kickstarter last year. I still haven't received any of my grid-based terrain Kickstarter shipments and wanted to try out the paint, so...
