At the moment I'm slightly overwhelmed by Salamander-y goodness, so for a change of pace I'm going to construct myself some terrain. However, as it's going to be Imperial themed I need to shout out to all the Imperial collectors for a few things. I don't expect all the answers in one go, so feel free to contribute if you can... Here we go then:
A) Cadian heavy weapons teams - are they on 40mm bases?
B) This is probably one of the most important - It would be very much appreciated if somebody could spend a moment just giving me the basic width, height, and length of a Baneblade...
C)Same as above, but for a Land Raider - whichever variant is the most bulky.
D) Is there any site/sites where I can find sort of trench equipment - I'm thinking duckboards, equipment containers, HESCO gabions, (think Camp Bastion walls for that). Really just anything that would be appropriate for an Imperial strong-point.
E) Are there any particularly suitable GW kits that I can salvage bits from to make stuff like vox arrays, command consoles etc from?
F) Would somebody perchance have the dimensions of Forgeworlds alternate Chimera rear door? - I'm thinking of using it as a sort of piston driven drawbridge, but I'm unsure of size.
G) Would anybody have the basic diameter of Forgeworlds Sabre defense turrets and Thudd Gun?
If any of you right honourable Dakkanoughts can answer any of these questions it would be a great help. Now obviously you're probably thinking that it's gonna cost a fortune getting Thudd guns, Sabre turrets etc. all from Forgeworld, but all I need is the dimensions, the turrets themselves can be added over the years as and when I build up the funds - at the moment it's just about building the terrain.
Many thanks in advance if you can help people.

A) 60mm
B) not on hand. you could try looking for paper craft templates.
C) same as above
D) http://www.wargameterrain.co.uk/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=14 will that do?
E) vehicle command kits, vox box off of ADL, Bastions as well as the comrelay from the bastion sprue.
i think land raiders have a decent console inside.
F) N/A
G) N/A

Cheers Desubot - that's a great help, especially as I was banking on the HW teams being on a 40mm base - glad I avoided that mistake . I took a look at the site, and whilst the pieces weren't what I was looking for (primarily just because they are single cast resin pieces - I'll be actually carving the scenery from Polystyrene), you have given me some great inspiration for making wooden slat duckboards out of balsa wood. I was looking more for this style of duckboard (though obviously not cast into an existing piece of scenery:
As for the kit's suggestions - I'll take a look at them too - many thanks.
Oh, I also forgot to mention - sandbags anybody? Either single cast pieces or any ideas to create them (I guess GS would do...).

Hmm actually recall seeing those kind of duckboards on IA master class 1. but for whatever reason i can find them any more. perhaps you might be stuck casting your own.
Sand bags seems way to easy to do your self with green stuff.
at least it lets you place them more naturally.

SandBags..cheapest simplest way I have found is Crayola airdry magic modelling compound ..and a couple of cloth band aids..put the cloth bandaids on yoru fingers roll to approximate diameter cut to lenght with what ever tool set and stack rolling the fabric bandage on your finger tipe over it to impress a cloth texture ..lots of quick cheap sandbags that really do slump into position .. Automatically Appended Next Post: And they air dry making assembly easy and simple ..they take primer and paint well

I doubt I've the skill or funds to cast my own duckboards in that style. Balsa wood seems like a good back up though.
I was going to leave this until I made a thread in the future showing the finished product, but essentially my concept is that I don't like GW's defence line ranges and I want to make something a little more original. It's not necessarily the sculpts - I love the aesthetics of the Wall of Martyrs, it's just the place that GW states they're used. IIRC, when the Wall of Martyrs was released, it came with the explanation that it was dropped by Munitorum landers, then bolted together, and I recall thinking "What? Do they just toss in dead Cadians for luck?"
My largest problem is that it's just too formal - it's fine for a siege situation, or if the attacker has had time to prepare for years, such as the Cadians would have, but for a recently erected fortification hastily made, or as an attackers FOB it's just not right. Hence, I wanted to make a piece of terrain in the style of earthworks like true field fortifications are constructed - cobbled together with local materials, salvaged scrap or destroyed vehicle with minimal smatterings of formal Munitorum issue equipment. I really don't think the Munitorum is too interested in the welfare of your average Guardsman to ensure he has a nice trench network to sit in on his backward Agriworld.
Put it this way, if the Wall of Martyrs is Hadrian's Wall, then my fortification will most definitely be my Great-Great Grandfathers trench on the Somme.

Hahaha, I was about to call you a saint... and then I realised what a coincidence your name was - Lazarus! So I thank you St Lazarus - that is a massive help, as I want to be able to fit a Baneblade or Land Raider (simply as the largest models in the 40K range - aside from the absolutely hideous Lord of Skulls ) into a particular piece of the terrain. Cheers again.
Could I ask how you modified it, just to see if it will affect my terrains measurements compared to a standard Baneblade.

I just extended the front a bit but I didn't measure the body length like that, I measured via the side armour plating
heres the pic of the front modification
I remembered from when I was working on it that the front slope is just about at the side panel, so it should be okay
hmm, St Lazarus, could be something to work with....

Cheers Lazarus, length shouldn't be a problem as the only limiting factors are going to be width and height. I'm thinking of a road, going through a strong point, with a gate in one end and a parapet going over the top.
As for St. Lazarus - During the Crusades there was an order of Knights named the Knights of St. Lazarus who were formed of members with Leprosy, usually accepting those recently afflicted from the Order of St. John (Hospitalliers) and the Order of the Poor Knights of Christ (Knights Templar). Check out wikipedia for more info as this is just a little bit off the top of my head. Considering the leprosy affliction, they could make a decent Chaos warband, or equally the Knights Order part could be made into a Loyalist chapter. You could swing it both ways.

@Rickfactor - I haven't seen that particular series, but I'll be following the exact same procedure. My old neighbour was a professional terrain constructor so I've picked up a lot of tips here and there, but never actually put them into use, hence this will be somewhat of a first for me - therefore the small scale and not a full modular board. The funny thing is that I don't actually do the gaming side, so this strong-point will probably end up sold off cheap on eBay or something when I've finished. Nevermind, thanks for the link - it'll prove helpful I imagine.
