Pre-Heresy World Eaters have been my favorite "loyalist" color scheme for a while now. I painted some regular Indomitus pattern terminators back in the early 2000's, just to have them. When I bought Angron, I knew I needed to do more. I made this as a for fun army, and to try to take as many axes to faces as I could.

I'd like to apologize for my photography. All I have is a white counter top with bad lighting to take pictures on, which results in some questionable photoshopping to get them to somewhere close to decent. With that said, here they are.

The only thing I don't like about Angron is how I did the Sons of Horus marine on the base. My main army is Black Legion / Sons of Horus, so I figured I'd put one of them on his base instead of the Death Guard most do. He came out way too heavily washed, but he is supposed to be grime-y. I'd redo him in a heart beat if I weren't afraid of plucking Angron off of him. Maybe I'll just update his shoulders, ringing them in gold. I'll update and brighten the freehand XVI symbol into the curved rendition that I put on the World Eaters, as well as the eye of Horus.

This Praetor is his second rendition. I didn't like his pose, or his wargear. He had a chain axe in his other hand, but I swapped him around to have a paragon blade and a boarding shield. I might swap the shield out for something that works a bit better. I might get the etched brass and make a better shield icon, or just have him use a legion Rhino door as a shield.

I made some home brew Rampagers. I really like how these came out too. They're MKII bodies with Forge World chain axes and legion shoulder pads. I used arms out of the Chaos Space Marine box. I completely forgot that they actually have a champion in there, so I hastily added some World Eater teeth to one of his knee pads.

I used MKII marines to somewhat match the style of cataphractii terminators, two squads of 5. I use the "Rite of War: Pride of the Legion" special rule to make these two terminator squads my troop choices. I'm on the fence on how they came out. I tried to keep them as "cool" of a color scheme as possible, but it just didn't work for these guys as it did my old regular terminators. They look good next to everything else, but they need something.

I might change the color of the metallic area framing their helmet to some sort of brass color, like some of the pictures in the Horus Heresy: Betrayal book. I added in red on the sergeant's power fists, as well as World Eater teeth on their knee pads just to get some warmth in the scheme. I do like the free hand, I made the legion symbol over-sized to fill up more of the pad, and added XII on the other. I also separated the two squads by changing their tassel's color. One squad dark blue, the other medium grey.

And to top it all off, are three Land Raiders. I had one of the old old old pastic ones from the early 90's, and I don't really care of the styling of the old ones - Forge World or other wise. So I used the modern ones with legion doors. I took close up pictures of only one, as the other two only have minor differences.

After a break, I'm back to painting Black Legion. White is really a pain to paint, but following Forge World's legion painting guide was easy. The only thing I changed was instead of sponging on white, I used the Citadel dry compound Praxeti White.

Very nice. I have been a fan of the Pre Heresy color schemes for a while. You executed them well. Fine job there.

That's a nice army, there. I'd have painted the marine on Angron's base in World Eater colors but that's just me.

Very crisp whites, Silver instead of Bronze for the trim was an interesting choice! Overall very well painted, I have to disapprove of the dead Son of Horus underfoot on Angron

Also have to mention that I love the free hand "Eater Jaw" on the knee pads of the Termies and excellent freehand work in putting the Eater Jaw on the shoulder! Although I believe since during Heresy era they did not display the Crux, that they should all be wearing Legion Iconography on their left shoulder, I know that's how it is displayed on Justaerin.

"You are like a son and together we have all but conquered the galaxy. Now the time has come for me to retire to Terra. My work as a soldier is done and now passes to you for I have great tasks to perform in my earthly sanctum. I name you Warmaster and from this day forth all of my armies and generals shall take orders from you as if the words came from mine own mouth. But words of caution I have for you for your brother Primarchs are strong of will, of thought and of action.

Thanks for the kind word everyone!

I was vexed slightly by the terminator shoulder pads. On 30k Abaddon, both his shoulder pads have the eye of Horus, and the left one is painted red. The Justaerin are reversed from him. So I fell back on what they are in 40k, legion iconography on the right and legion numerals on the left in place of the crux.

Think you should switch from a white background since they are mainly white and it takes away from their color. Mutes them one would say.

I think it would look a whole lot better in front of a darker back drop.
