I recently came up with this idea for an imperial guard Slave army. I can just imagine squads of humie gits with chains around their necks being led/wipped by runtherds, followed by lots of looted tanks. If anyone has any feedback or has seen or done this before please don't hesitate to post.

Look up "40K Diggas". Basically, they're humans that act like Orks and the Orks tolerate them. Could be a feasible justification for your army.

While humans do employ Orks as mercenaries, I like your idea of runtherds trying out some new slaves.

Interesting idea.
I always ran mine as blood axes "hired" by the local IG.

Have not seen it, love the idea. Maybe a large runtherd riding a humans soldiers shoulders as an hq. Or a human wedged in a looted tanks barrel as ammo. I guess there are a lot of great ideas for an army like this, it all comes down to green stuff capability to make it work.

In the mid 1990's fluff, Commisars would recruit Orks to work alongside the IG.

Dawn of War 2 even has an Inquisitor of the Ordo Maleus hire ork freebootaz to fight chaos for her. The ork warboss stole her hat as payment.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Inquisitor Adrastia (a noted Puritan) of the Ordo Hereticus hired Kaptin Bluddflagg and noted that the preferred method of paying Orks was an offer or a fight, but the Kaptin asked for the hat too. After being rejected on that he ended up mugging her for the hat after stomping the subsector flat anyway.
They also had strong Tsundere undertones.

Thanks for the correction, I was under the impression that she was hunting for Daemons, but it's been a while since I played the game.

She was investigating Gabriel's claims regarding Kyras so that the Ordo Malleus wouldn't obliterate a sector that had become a valuable training ground for nothing.
Nope, no concern for the billions living in it, just that it was a good place to throw Guardsmen at and call whomever survived a veteran and pack him or her off for MORE war elsewhere.

This will be far easier if the orks are Blood Axes, IG/Blood Axe armies are a common point of fluff and is a more reasonable option and wont require a lot of conversion.
Thwe picture I was really looking for but couldn't find was an early pencil drawing of Necronumda era IG and Blood Axes assaulting as fortress side by side in the background while a Warboss and a Commissar confer in the foreground.

YES! I have thought of tis before, a few friendsand I played a game I was lacking the boyz in my army atthe time, so I used a couple of eldar guardians as a substitute, I thought of it as 'the orks have forced them into hard labour in order for their survival' but we all know survival andorks dont go together do they?
It would be great to see this in action post pics!

I think it would be best if the guardsmen had their own stats the same as if they were playing for the imperial guard, as it would create independece, if you just give them grot guns, and gretchin stats, it would just be fancy looking grots.

I'm thinking that I will either play it as its own codex with my own rules or as an allied detachment with exceptions. I think that making up a new codex would work well as I'd be able to incorporate things like revolutions and runt herds whipping the guardsmen. Either way it should be fun and a good looking component to my orks on the table.
