What happens if a stat is doubled twice? For example, let's say we have Commisar Yarrick in an apocalypse game. He calls his finest hour, and rolls the result which doubles your strength. He's also got a power klaw. Is he S9 (3 × 3 = 9) or S10 (S3 × 2 × 2 = 12, max 10).

Why would you ever get x3? Too much D&D on the brain?

Well, the rulebook says you apply the × multipliers not taking into account the + modifiers. You'd basically be left with 3 + 3 + 3 if you did the math, essentially the same as ×3. So I wrote it as ×3.

No, doing the math give 3x2+3x2.

That's not right at all. Using that math, if you only double it once you'll be 3×2 + 3 and if you don't double it at all it'll be 3 + 3.

It'd be Str*2*2, which works out to Str*4 (because 2+2=4)
So he'd be Str10.

I would lean towards a D&D/Scrabble interpretation of the adding a result that would otherwise double the number. Basically, I am agreeing with the 3x3 interpretation, but only because there is an established convention, albeit from different sources. If someone in my meta felt so strongly about it, I might concede or leave it to the 50/50 dice roll, but s9 and s10 usually doesn't make a difference for us, particularly in cases of close combat.

I'd say it quadruples the stat because basic maths.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in space and flung him into the Warp, where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to real-space, and undo the evil that is Chaos!"

Agreed, quadrupling it is basic maths. To get the x3 end result, you have to consider each multiplication as an addition of the original base value instead and then add them on separately. That isn't multiplication, that's addition.

It won't cause any major balance problems anyway, since you're still capped at S10 at most.

Had this happen running my Dark Eldar. My Archon wields a Huskblade and a Soul Trap. Managed to sneak a blow through the Rosarius of a Chaplain, passed Ld test, is now S6. Then pummelled the enemy Captain into a small heap, passed Ld test. Now, we thought the same as OP, is it doubled then doubled, or is it tripled. Basic maths won in the end and we went with doubled and then doubled.

Although in this case it was largely irrelevant as she now had 2 Pain Tokens and would have been S10 on the charge anyway. (Which is why she then went tank hunting)

This

You are not told to alter basic mathematics, so you have no permission to do so

(3*2)*2 = 12, capped at 10
