Alright so I'm making an IG army based around the concept of converting and making unique EVERY model and I'm a drummer. It's inevitable that these two things would eventually meld in my mind so yes, I want to make a sci-fi field drummer. I know my drums and so I know exactly what I want but not a clue where to find them!

What I'm hoping for isn't a standard medieval looking drum like you find in most fantasy/historical games (tenor or field drum) but something more modern, I feel like that would fit a sci-fi setting better.

Take a look:

I can deal with the harness myself, as most players nowadays wear the harness under their uniforms or on a sling which is super easy to greenstuff. I'm just looking for a decent drum model that doesn't look like it's held together with rope and sheep skins!

Any suggestions?

Drums of suitable scale can be found with historical miniatures like American Civil War, Napoleonic War ranges.

You could also search for toy soldiers of the correct height or toy marching figures.

It wouldn't be that difficult to make one either. - you'd need a cylinder (even rubber hose would do), something like plasticard strips to make the bands top and bottom. Some plasticard rod or actual wire.

So Spartan Games' Kingdom of Britannia drummer boy is too old-fashioned?

Empire state troop kit might have something that will work, the musician parts include a drum and two drummer arms...

Hmmm I did stumble upon the Dystopian Legion drummer boy and just might get that one for its quality vs price value. It's not EXACTLY what I'm looking for (yes it is a bit old) but aside from the "double traditional" grip (how he holds both his sticks palms-up) that made me stop in my tracks, it's SUCH a good model...

At any rate, does anyone else have some additional ideas? The Empire State Troop drum has a large divot in the back that would be a pain to greenstuff for visuals and that rag on the front looks out of place in my opinion, at least for my use in 40k. Most fantasy or "historical" drum models are much larger than I want; look at a picture or two of some Napoleonic or ACW drummers and you'll see how large the drums were, whereas the ones I'm hoping to find have a much smaller depth. Older ones could be almost half the size of their player, new ones barely go from mid-thigh to waist.
