Hey guys,

Finished up a couple of stormtalons, finally got some good pics of them tonight.

They are done in the red/yellow of the Imperial Fists 3rd Company. The aim was to tie them into the company without overwhelming the mini with red.

Questions/comments/feedback would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Thanks guys!

Yes its an Airbrush, Painted each window black then did a white airbrush basecoat leaving some of the black around the edges. Then I did a transition from black to blue using the minitair ghost tints (oil discharge, blue, then plasma fluid), making sure I left a white spot in the direction of the light source (for me this above and slightly to the right of the vehicle).

I got a little lazy with the one on the right, my airbrush jammed a few times and gave the spray pattern a patchy look in places. I should have stopped and cleaned it but was in a rush. I think I'll try and get around to redoing it once I finish up some more units.

I have quite a lot of this army painted at the moment, I might try and show all of it in the thread when I get some time.

Kevv6 wrote:Not a fan of painted canopies myself, but the painting itself is good, I like the wear and tear. (But you put the wings on one of them on the wrong sides, the wings are pointing up instead of down)

Haha, yeah I didn't realise that I had put the wings on one of them the wrong way around until I was half way through doing the airbrush shading . Rather than rip them off I just left it, the good thing about it is they can be side by side in pictures now without the wings pushing them apart.

I was tossing up between what I've done and painting the interiors and leaving the canopies as clear glass but I settled on doing the blue to add a contrasting colour, I don't have much to contrast all the yellow and red in the army at this stage and I'm going to try use the blue on plasma weapons and glass tints to add it in. Hopefully when I get whole army shots up I can change your mind!

I seem to get this sort of comment a lot on things I paint, something on the mini is a little extreme or "garish" and people either love it or hate it haha. I think it’s just become part of my paint style now . Maybe one day I’ll get to a happy medium between the two . Appreciate the feedback!

Nice paint job, i got trouble with yellow, so Since you painted the canopies i assume you preserved the bits from the inside right?

Yeah I kept the guys from the inside. Not sure what I'll use them for yet but might come in handy one day.

Also

I thought I may as well put all my stuff into this thread instead of making a separate one each week.

So here are the finished components of the 3rd company.

Going to keep adding units till I have an big selection of everything.

Any feedback is welcome!

Thanks.

Not the best assembly on this Rhino but I got him second hand.

thanks guys, I'm getting through the army at about 1 unit / character / vehicle per week.

Yep it is zenithal. Black underneath, grey from 45 degree, then an ochre yellow over that, then i do some white from directly above and a pure yellow from above ontop of the white. I use an airbrush but it could be done with a can too id say.

Got this guy finished an assembled on the weekend.

Ironclad with Dual Hunter Killers Missiles, Dual Heavy Flamers, a Dread Close Combat Weapon and a Chainfist.

Not happy with the banner, might add some more flair to it later on. It will do for now though.

Thanks guys! I'm really enjoying painting this army. Usually around this stage I would be burning out from painting the one army but I'm still keen to get more done. I think the new codex coming out soon is helping too .

Here is my next update, my captain of the 3rd Company.
I just used the Assault on Black Reach guy, I might replace him with the new one when it comes out.
Wasn't totally happy with the banner but it will have to do for now.

Feedback welcome! Thanks.
