Subject: Dark Angles: To Pod Or Not To Pod? [It looks like no Pods]
I was playing around with a few lists and came up with this one. Everything is WYSIWYG, but the two Whirlwinds, these will be played by a pair of Razorbacks. I usually face Marines, Orks or Nids.
It’s the two Whirlwinds I really want to experiment with. I do have plenty of Deathwing, but no Ravenwing.
I am also I am willing to make Changes. I have no issues dropping the Drop Pods and trying something else.
2000 Pts - Codex: Dark Angels Roster
Azrael, 215 pts (Rites of Battle; Warlord; Courage of the Lion)
Command Squad, 255 pts (Bolt Pistol x4; Combi-Plasmagun x4, Standard of Devastation)
>Apothecary
>Drop Pod
Company Veterans Squad, 330 pts (Bolt Pistol x10; Combi-Plasmagun x7; Plasma gun x2; Plasma Cannon)
>Drop Pod
The Basic Plan: My thought was sending down Azrael with the Command Squad and the Veteran Squad and Turn one, Hopefully close enough to have both take advantage of the Dakka Banner and if I need to Combat Squad.
The Librarian will be in the Backfield with the Devastators and the Two Whirlwinds.

Not trying to tear you apart or anything man, however you do know that since everyone is moving the plasma cannons on the tacs are a waste, the dakka banner is kind of a waste too IMO. As you only have 4 squads benefitting from this, and they will only be getting the 2 shots at half range since you moved when you got out of the pod. IF they have enough survive they would have to sit in place to benefit most from the banner, if not your just rapid firing bolters like normal. The ww are good because they are so cheap, however I don't know about two of them unless all you face is orks and nids. Against marines, 2 is just kind of pointless as there wont be many good targets, weight of wounds would be nice, but if your opponent realized it he would just keep them spread thin. So I would drop one maybe, drop the plasma cannons and dakka banner IMO. I would honestly figure out a way to fit in a pod of veterans maybe with the combi plasmas and if you could find the points a scouting black knights squad with a ravenwing GL. I personally run ravenwing more than deathwing but I still like to throw a BK squad in whatever list I have. Anyways, let me know how the pods go, been wanting to try. Cheers.
[EDIT] I'm sorry maybe another veteran squad, or even drop the dakka banner to get the outflanking BK or scouting depending on situation.

I think I will do this.

I know Tactical are struggling in the Hyper-Focus AP2/AP3 Environment, but its Deathwing or Greenwing. This time I just decided to go with the Greenwing. I could go with a Deathwing, but Whirlwinds just did not feel right with them.

Like I stated in the OP, these are what I am building my list around.

Witch Plasma Cannons? I am you are assuming the Devastator Squad.

Like I said early in my OP, I have no Bikes.
Ok, here we go: I dropped the Drop Pods and the Devastators. I shifted the Librarian to the Veteran Squad (mostly for the 4++ Save) and are adding two Tech Marines for the Tactical Squads, also for the 4++ Save for two of them. I am also added third Tactical Squad.
2000 Pts - Codex: Dark Angels Roster
Spoiler:
Azrael, 215 pts (Warlord; Courage of the Lion)
Command Squad, 240 pts (Melta Bombs x4; Bolt Pistol x4; Combi-Plasmagun x4)
>Apothecary
>Standard of Devastation
Librarian, 135 pts (Bolt Pistol; Force Sword; Melta Bombs; Power Field Generator; Psyker (Mastery Level 2); 6E Psychic Disciplines: ; Divination; Pyromancy; Telekinesis; Telepathy)
Company Veterans Squad, 295 pts (Bolt Pistol x10; Combi-Plasmagun x7; Plasma gun x2; Plasma Cannon)
Tip: drop 2 pods with tacticals on turn 1, try to place them relatively close together, about midfield, and out of assault range of the enemy. Turn 2 drop the pod with the banner close to the first 2 squads which will now benefit from the banner since they did not move!
A single DW squad deep striking deep in enemy terrain on turn 1 would help this tactic by distracting the enemy from your midfield tacts.
Cheers.

My bad, if you were able to purchase the bikes it would be a great addition. and no the plasma cannons on the guys coming out of the pods. the devs are fine. The guys in the pods are going to come out and plasma cannons can't shoot assuming they survive the intial barrage, I'm also going to assume your going to move them. They just wouldn't be doing anything ya know. Unless I'm reading this correctly and you dropped the pods. Consider though giving the veterans transports maybe? Then again if its orks and nids gunline isnt a bad thought. This is the one time I'm actually going to suggest to keep a dark talon with your meta lmao.

Question for you: Why Azrael? If you're using him for the 4++ save on the command squad, you could do the same for cheaper with another librarian with a PFG. You don't have any bikes or terminators to make troops, so he's wasting that ability. I would think about dropping him for the librarian and giving yourself 100+ points to play with. Enough for some bikes or another 5 man tact squad with a heavy weapon.
If you're going to keep him, at least drop the veteran sergeant upgrades, as everyone will be taking their LD tests on 10 due to Azrael's special rule.

Mostly I have him to Choose the Warlord Trait and he has yet to fail me.
The Librarian is there to give me Priesesance.
Also I have no Bike and I don't plan on getting any. I am saving up for the new C: SM
Ahh I see. Well if you've decided not to pod keep the cannons in the tacs. However if your going to pod get rid of them. I just cant imagine your going to have them all standing still after they drop. Unless you dropped at like mid field or something. Anyways goodluck man.
