I have a bit of an odd situation that is hindering my painting lately and I cant quite put my finger on why it is happening. I spray prime alot of my models either with an autotek black primer or army painters dragon red primer. After leaving them to rest for a day to make sure the primer has set I do some airbrushing and apply my first wash. Here however I encounter and issue where the shade essentially eats the paint and primer, stripping both away in any area it pools and leaving tiny patches of bare plastic. The models are always washed before I prime them but I'm wondering if I'm not being aggressive enough washing them or if something else could be causing this primer issue.

It seems like a really minor thing but touching up an airbrushes colour blend by hand in tiny crevices really eats into my time and can sap the motivation to continue with an otherwise nice model.

Any ideas on what could be causing this issue would be fantastic.

Thanks

That strikes me as odd... what paints are you using?

Maybe it's the primer, and it needs more than a day to set?

My paints are either citadel (new and old range) or Vallejo Model Air (when airbrushing). It could well take more than a day for the primer to set I guess, always worth a shot to try and stop a decent paintjob getting eaten. Its annoying because I've used autotek for years yet the issue only happened in recent months, but persisted when I used my army painter primer instead. Possibly due to the heat over the past couple of months?

The heat, maybe the seagulls (heh), and autotek may have changed their formula. You should check it to see if it's still the same.

Admittedly I have only been using a spray primer for the past few days but I have had no issues with my matt black army painter. Although I have done it only when its been tolerable to do it outside.
