Hey, i was recently looking for some info on Necron Hq Obyrons cleaving counterblow special rule which i found, but which led me to another question.

His special ability says to keep track of all misses in CC made by the attacker so Obyron gets bonus attacks (up to 6). My original question was did this mean that he had to be in a unit by himself for this to work which i found the answer to on another post regarding a similar question here in the you make da call forum by a tgf.

His post was asking if cleaving counterblow even worked anymore and he stated "Cleaving Counterblow requires models to swing at Obyron, but you can no longer attack IC's. I am assuming it is a challenge only ability or a solo character in a fight like just obyron against a whole TAC squad and that's all."

My question is whats the rule that says you can't attack independent characters? I haven't seen any rule in the newest rulebook or faq i could find. Does this mean you cant charge a IC in a unit by himself? I keep obyron in a unit by himself quite often and havent been playing like that.

Still fairly new, any clarification would be appreciated, thanks!

When an IC was joined to a unit it used to be the case that you had to choose (on a per model basis) to attack either the unit or the IC. This is no longer the case, and an IC can not be singled out of a unit any more. That's what people are referring to when they talk about not being able to attack an IC in combat, they're talking about being unable to single them out of units any more. So yes, his Counterblow ability will only apply in either a Challenge or when he's on his own.

Suppose Obyron joins 20 Flayed Ones and assaults a Tactical Marine squad and there is no challenge.

If Obyron was engaged with the Tactical Marine squad, could all of the misses be considered misses against Obyron? If he could take a wound from an attack made against his unit, why couldn't Cleaving Counterblow apply against those hits?

Because those wounds need to be allocated to him to allow for counterblow.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

Counterblow is based off misses to hit, not wounds. If you are attacking a unit that Obyron is part of, and Obyron is base to base with the attacker, will this trigger his Cleaving Counterblow?

Alternatively, if I did a multi-charge and Obyron was the only model from my unit in base with the other unit, would cleaving counterblow trigger as he is the only model that could take hits from the other unit?
