Some Tomb World in some galaxy by that one thing in that one place (or Minnesota for nosy people)

There is a semi-competitive tournament going on in a week or so, and my friend is just going for fun to get back in the hobby after about a 2 month break. Not looking for any hardcore WAAc kind of advice but any ways to improve this list would help

HQ
Mephiston (keeping wings but swapping the rest for biomancy)

Libby (rolling on Div)
Terminator Armour
Force Sword

ELITES
5 TH/SS Termis (they are his favorite models so he will be fielding them regardless of what people say)

Sanguinary Priest
Terminator Armour

TROOPS
5 Assault Marines
Flamer
Razorback
TL Lascannon

5 Assault Marines
Flamer
Razorback
TL Lascannon

10 Tacticals
ML
Flamer

10 Tacticals
ML
Flamer

HEAVY SUPPORT
Stormraven
TL Assault Cannon/Lascannon (not sure which he has modeled on)
TL MM

Vindicator
Dozer Blade

Vindicator
Dozer Blade

The Libby and Sang Priest join the TH/SS termis and either run up the board or DS depending on the mission (one of our missions have people that arrive via DS scatter 2d3 instead of 2d6) and the enemies force (we have Green Tide at our tournament so it may not be the best option to do on such a crowded board). Assault Marines zoom up board and try to get in assault with any annoying backfield units like lootas or pathfinders. Razorbacks take pot shots at air units and tanks while getting the assault marines up board. Tacs combat squad with the flamer moving up board and the ML sitting back. Stormraven focuses on taking out air units and tanks. Vindicators take out heavy infantry, hordes, and heavy tanks all while staying mobile.

I'm not sure how competitive this list is since I'm not much of a BA player but it's the one that he sent me so comment away on any way to make this list more viable. I'm thinking he tries to make space to get plasmas on the tacs instead of the flamer since the flamer seems to be terribly out of place.

Any C&C appreciated

You cant pick and choose powers from the codex and powers from the main rulebook, it's all or nothing.

Good Ol' Texas

Meph has 3 powers, but only has to change 2. So keeping Wings is perfectly fine.

Here are suggestions to make the list more competitive:

Drop Meph and use points to get a LRC for the Termies

Drop Termie on the Sang. Priest if you use the LRC

Give the libby a Force Axe (if you can, its better in challenges)

Make all the Tac Squads PG/LC

Put MG in the ASM Squads and Las Plas on the RB.

Doing these things increases the damage output of your Troops and gives the Termies a guarantee delivery.

Having the LRC roll up with Vindicator on its flanks is always fun.

Hope this helps!

I would make the tacs pg/lc except for the lack of points. As far as I know he doesn't own a land raider besides a FW variant (I think its an achilles) but he has a $700 budget for any new models so I'm sure he could get one.

I'll talk to him about the changes and get back to you on it

No, even Mephiston can't mix powers. Read the BA FAQ.

Get a LR since he insists on using the TH/SS terminators. On foot, they are going to be shuriken fodder.

Actually yes mephiston can mix powers. As a matter of fact he has to mix powers if he wants any BRB powers. Read the FAQ it states that you may only swap 2 powers while Mephiston knows 3.

I just talked to him and he said he either wants Mephiston or the termis so now anything is swappable.

But there is another rule that states you can't mix powers. That means Mephiston has 2 rule book powers or his original three.

In fact, the language of the FAQ even uses "instead of" when talking about the swap. To my knowledge, there is no way in the game to mix/match codex powers with core rulebook powers.

Here is the relevant main rule book FAQ:

Q: Can psychic powers be mixed and matched from the psychic
disciplines and those found in the Codexes? (p418)
A: No. You may select from the psychic powers listed in the
Codex as normal orswap them for a number ofrolls on the
psychic disciplines tables.

So, yeah, Mephiston gets boned.

Eldar are able to mix and match BUT that's because they are on the new GW system of disciplines. Eldar must always roll for psychic disciplines and no longer get to choose psychic powers. So, they're different from the 5th Edition or older codicies.

Well, the Tacticals are a bit out of place here. I'd replace them with two Assault squads in Razorbacks too. Have you thought about IG allies with Corteaz and some Acolyths with plasma guns or meltas in the Stormraven?

I feel I want to second, that you really want a LRC for the Termies.
However, I would get the LRC MM for 10 extra points.

I am not really sure about the Tactical squards, I feel like you can spend those 360points in much better ways.
Do you know what the missions will be like? ... Do you feel like you need alot of troops?

As others have said drop the Tactical marines they don't offer anything. Also and this is just personal preference but I would take the Libby out of terminator armour and make that Crusader a Redeemer. But that may because I love the Redeemer

Good Ol' Texas

I have to disagree with the others here..... Tac marines have been much more versatile, imo. In a meta where basic guns can crack open our normal transports, I feel that more boots on the ground are better. The Tac marines offer 2 things ASM will never do:

Long range firepower

Objective camping

If you do the second with ASM, you're running them wrong. You should be ramming the mech part of the army down your opponents throat, and leaving Razorbacks behind is wasting points.

Again, just my opinion. I always run at least 20-30 Tac Marines in every one of lists. The heavy weapons and bolters do so much more vs Tau/Eldar/Necrons.

I'm in the middle. I have lists that use a squad of tactical marines, but only one. They can be combat squadded and use the heavy weapon team for objective camping and the other team gets in the razorback and pushes with the mobile elements. Tacs with combi-plasma and plasma gun in a las/plas razor can do some serious damage to valuable units. They are not dead weight troops.

Our missions usually are as follows

1st: kill points for primary and vehicles don't count for kill points
Deepstriking objectives t3, one in the center and 2 for each player for secondary
And destroying all of the enemies tanks for Tertiary

2nd: King of the hill, one objective in the middle, whoever has the most scoring models within 12" gets the Primary
Destroy a unit without having one of your units destroyed in the same game turn for Secondary
I can't remember the Tertiary objective for this mission

3rd: Each Table Quarter and 12" from the center is an objective, Primary
First Blood, Secondary
Kill a higher percentage of the opponents models then he has of yours, Teritiary

Troops are very important in these missions and so is durability so going for all out razorback spam won't be the best choice concidering that we have about 3 ig players (we only have about one of each race in our tournament group)
