...but is anyone else really pleased with GW's business plans this year?
Seems like after years and years of mucking it up one month after the next, they're finally starting to understand what their customers have been screaming about forever.
Sure..prices are up there..way up there...but the releases and model ranges and rules lately have been quite amazing to me...6th was a hard edition to take...but since the release of codecies this year, especially Tau, everything finally seems to be balancing out.

I pretty much agree, I really like seeing a new codex every couple of months and whilst far from perfect, overall I think they're getting more hits than misses.
However, I suspect this thread is gonna have quite a bit of hate...

I don't really see why there would be hate incoming. The majority of players would rather see a repeat of 2013 than have years similar to 2011-2012 (a few decent releases, but very uneventful for the most part).

I had my doubts in the HHHobby but come this year call me a happy camper.
Codex releases out the wazoo? Sweet.
Supplements for those who want more? Sign me up.
New Apocalypse rules? Heck I always wanted to play a 20k battle.
Heck, even the riptide made me start a new army and I'm now a proud owner of a 1250 pts Tau army.
I know it ain't all sunshine and rainbows but it's the world and setting I love, I can model and paint all I want, noone is making me buy anything I don't want and, most of all, I can have my lovely cinematic battles in the 40th millenium with my wife and friends.

I'm actually getting a bit overwhelmed with the speed of their releases! Even the squarebase stuff is looking pretty cool these days. I'm definitely enjoying 2013 though, and my biggest problems have mostly been with the toxicity of the community. Yeah, GW is never perfect (doubling the price on Dire Avengers for one) but I feel like they're doing more right than wrong at the moment.

It's a bit of a mixed bag for me...
They're slowly fixing the international pricing discrepancies... but they're doing so by raising everyone else up to Australian pricing, which is not going to be popular. And the embargo on buying internationally is still in place, which is annoying... If the prices are more equalised, the embargo really serves no purpose other than to limit my choice in where to buy from. Which means if stuff is out of stock in Oz, I can't just find somewhere else to buy from. And thanks to the *ahem* quality service offered by Australia Post, I can often get something faster from a store in the US than I can from one in the next state...
The codex release schedule is nice... If they can keep it up, it looks promising to actually have everyone updated before the next edition for a change. But the lack of a cheaper softcover codex option makes me sad panda, as it means I'm just not buying those new codexes, where previously I have always bought them all. And the supplements are just so ridiculously over-priced for what they offer.
While 6th edition has some awesome bits... the rules are a mess. Stuff that was fixed last edition that is broken again now, random rules changes in FAQs, Fortifications... don't get me started on fortifications...
They are doing ok on model releases, though. For all the complaining about the push towards big models (which I don't have any problem with whatsoever... it's a logical progression, and I like having big nasty stuff in the game) the Wraithknight and Riptide are lovely models. Still not a fan of the Storm Talon, but the other fliers have been pretty cool as well.

Heresy! No one can like GW's policies until they roll prices back to 1990s levels and makes every book into Nwcrons and Tau!
/sarcasm
I'm not displeased with the rate at which they are knocking out the books. Models, meh...

People will continue to hate GW until their prices go down... so basically, people will always hate GW.
But I'm enjoying it so far. I've found myself playing less and collecting models I like the aesthetics of, enjoying the modelling side of it more than the gaming side. Price isn't so much a problem because I don't need an army, I just pick up whatever will look good on my shelf. By the time I've finished my newest I'll have saved enough for more models.
As far as I can tell, the new books are fairly balanced too. We'll see how that pans out in the long run, but so far it's looking good for GW.

What's going to happen if GW doesn't sustain this release schedule? I guess that is when the real complaining will start.
I actually like what GW is doing. While it's not what I collect, I am hoping to get my army soon. This way everyone will get an update within 2 years now instead of 10 years.
Come on Tyranids. That is my release I am looking forward too. But as the OP said, not looking forward to the price.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.
Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

I suspect so. As a parallel, they had a similar release schedule when 3rd edition first dropped. After the first year or so, though, releases started slowing down, and people started complaining about having to wait for their codex...
The difference, though, is that back then, GW was actively communicating with the players, and we had a rough idea, if not of actual timeframes, of what was currently being worked on. That's not the case now, though, so I expect that when they have worked through the current backlog and the release schedule starts to slow down, that the complaining will be an awful lot louder.

I must say I love the constant new codices. It makes great sense, people can play with their old models, but new rules are new rules and the excitement generated can encourage someone like myself to buy some allies from a new codex, as such I'm buying some Tau for ranged shooting for my GK. if they put out a new codex for every army for 6th, I'll send a keg of beer to the GW Headquarters. Here is to hoping.

You jinxed it....now we wont get a new dex till july2014!!! jk it is refreshing i'll give them that. Too much stuff in this game remains unchanged for way too long. Whats sad is they technically dont even have to do a mass overhaul to change a codex like they keep doing...but then again they will never FAQ/Errata a codex to add a new unit (be surprised if they even do the White Dwarf thing again) And i doubt they'll ever lower their prices, even if the game starts to die off and everyone shifts to Warmachine or something else. Their prices are a little insane, but if you think about it theyre actually only slightly more expensive than same level quality models of say model boats or planes. Yeah, the cheapo crapola ones are like 15 bucks for a Dakkajet-sized A-10 model but it has almost no detail in the model and is flimsy. The only reason it seems so crazy expensive is because you need multiples of these expensive models. Riptide is cheaper than most Gundam models and thats saying something lol (i am in South Korea atm and you wouldnt believe the amount of Gundam models around here that are 100+ at the LOWEST for a model about the size if not slightly bigger than a Riptide). And to be honest aside from the head its better than most of the Gundam models because of the level of detail on it and its material is superior.
