I like the idea of having a unit of 5-10 with warscythes running around with obyron or trollzyn .... but the +3 armor save and initative 2 makes me wonder if they are even worth taking over wraiths

Over Canoptek Wraiths? No.
But they are good enough to take if you don't have enough Wraiths in your collection or if you want to play a game without Wraiths.

Over wraiths?

If you want to do something different to what every one else is doing, sure.

Idk ... Wraiths you really need a Dlord attached to them, which I'm not a big fan of Dlords

Then Lychguard it is. Question is though, are you going boardguard or stickguard?

I'd recommend going with sword & board over Warscythes, you need that 4++ to deal with Heldrakes/anything else AP3. For the amount of points you spend on Lychguard, survivability is key.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

What about putting them in a ghost ark for survivability?

Why? DLords are one of the best HQs in the game, period. They make some of the nastiest characters in the game hide.

Ghost arks can only carry warriors and the various things that can attach to a warrior squad.

Just not a fan of Dlords all around, I know statwise they are amazing .... just cant bring myself to even want to think about picking up the model.

Ghost Arks can also carry Lychguard, but they cannot start the game in it.
And I am also not a fan of D-Lords, I think they are boring.

I use them quite often. Mainly against GK and Nids. They take down dinosaurs like they are nothing. I use shield/sword combo. Nids WILL come to you. So no transport or obyron needed. I put my overlord with orb and a lightningfield cryptek with them. They obliterate everything... Against GK this squad managed to keep draigo and his paladins locked in combat for 5 turns. And i was slowely but surely winning. Warscythes are awesome as well but less resillient to damage... Which you want them to be for those points... Need a warscythe? Give it to your lord and put him in this squad...

Go sword and shield for em. Toss a Lord with a warscythe in there and a Overlord just for good measure with a Warscythe and rez orb kitted out and you'll be good to go. They can be perdy nasty on the table problem is getting them to where they are going. Toss em in a night scythe.

No, they can't. It explicitly says only warriors, overlords and court members can use it.

Oops, did not read that part.
I never noticed that, since the 'Army List'-section doesn't mention a Special Rule besides Living Metal and Repair Barge

The lack of TEQ saves and inability to get a power axe (which would be IDEAL on them) kills them for me as they are.

Eh, they have 3+ and 5+ res. That's supposed to be as good as 2+. Unless they face mass AP3/AP2/AP1 of course. But that's why you have a shield.

The idea behind the lack of an axe is to force you to make the choice between better defense and excellent offence. If they could take shield and axe, it would make warscythes redundant.

Warscythes carve through vehicles like turkeys. (Though in ye olden days they ignored invul saves, making Pariahs hammernator killers). And while the difference between I2 and I1 is small, it still does come up fairly often.

Generally I'd like them to be able to stand on even ground with the Hammernators Sword 'n Board Lychguards are so clearly derivative of.
