Irregular Miniatures. Better yet, they have Battlepacks that contain two armies and rules.

I always found irregular 6mm to be a bit blobby with no detail.

I think Heriocs & Ros had a nice range of 6mm WW1.

That may have to do with 6mm being so small. You can only fit so much detail onto something the size of a fingernail.

Only fit so much detail? Some of my newer GHQ Infantry have something to say to you hahahaha (although, some of their models come up to 8-10mm at times. They're still some of the best detailed "6mm" I own though).

I second Heriocs & Ros. They make some good stuff, and their WW1 stuff is rather nice from what I've seen. Fairly cheap too.

Adler 6mm are another very large "6mm" range.

I have nothing against them personally, I own a large -- mostly unpainted Napoleonic French army -- but it has to be said that all manufacturers find it easier to pack detail into a particular scale by using extra-long millimetres to measure things.

6mm varies in detail just like every other scale. Anyone who wants to see the high end of the spectrum should check out some of GHQ's modern PLA (Chinese). The vehicles have lug nuts on their wheels.

As for Irregular, they might seem blobby and look particularly not good in the metal, but they have deep details and paint up quite nicely. They're like an impressionist choice whereas Scotia strives for a bit more realism in the final presentation.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

This, GHQ is quite expensive for 6mm ($2 a tank), but majority of their models have the same level of detail that I expect in 15mm.

Irregular and Adler tend to be more impressionist like you said, while GHQ and Scotia tend to be realistic.

I believe Baccus 6mm are rumoured to be producing a range very soon. Now they do very nice models normally...

As another option - Peter Pig has 'recently' released a new version of Square Bashing. You can get that, and a couple of army packs, from the PP website.

'Course, that's 15mm, but let's consider all the options here.

sweet!!!!! I'm digging the response to this.. many ranges I would have never thought about checking out for 6mm etc. What about ww1 aircraft to this scale (1/285 or 1/300)

I don't think anyone makes WW1 aircraft that small. It probably doesn't work for biplanes. There is a range of 1/144 scale, which is double the ground size but might look OK whien you consider your viewpoint is high above the table and closer to the planes than the ground.
