I feel like this new codex really is not needed. Other than some new units (AA) I am not sure what the Space Marines really need.
From a busniess standpoint, I would have updated the Imperial Guard seeing as how many players there are.
Those suits of armour things look like Warmachine Khadorian battle suits and seem to kill the point of Terminator armour for me.
What was it Flash Gitz Animation said? Space Marines inside of Space Marines?
I dont know, I geuss I am just getting tired of seeing alot if the same stuff from Gamesworkshop

It really is, for the reasons you said. AA units/options, as well as a general repointing.

New units are par for the course. I mean, could you imagine there NOT being a new unit? It would be bad business.

It's been 5 years since space marines have been updated and they are an extremely popular army so I don't get why they wouldn't get a new codex in that time frame.

space Marines and (until now) Tyranids have been updated everytime a new edition is out. I was a bit disappointed, however, that they did this one before Orks or to absorb Black Templars.

Poster Child. It will be updated even if it doesnt need it.

Which they do mainly because they lack any real "cool" things since walkers suck donkeyballs now. Its not so much theyre worthless or underpowered, its that the tactics that still work are ungodly boring and simple.

From what I have been told, Space Marines alone outsell everything else combined.
From a business point of view it makes perfect sense.

They're financial shot in the arm for GW, that's very true. From a gameplay standpoint, vanilla Marines have been outshined by each subsequent codex to some degree, especially the Marine variant armies. A general update to bring them up to speed seems good to me. It's also nice that you'll be able to actually get the rules for their fliers without ordering Death from the Skies from GW direct. Having everything under one roof will be good. The fact that they're rolling Black Templars into the codex, effectively bringing them up to speed as well, is just gravy.

I'd say they do. It's just not as competitive in the current incarnation vs things like Tau/Eldar currently which essentially are built to eat up MEQ.

Hopefully horde orks/nids will balance out and eat elder/tau which lets MEQ do a bit better in the meta.

You'll notice that they don't have a massive statue of an Imperial Guardsman....

Do they need it? Not really.

Will they get it anyway, with bells on?

Yup.

GW is very marineocentric, so skipping an edition with codex-marines is unthinkable, whereas leaving a xeno race languishing for 10+ years is acceptable

I think if it was closer to the end of the year, like November, I'd be happy with it. But the fact that we've still got some older xenos guys in need of a new book, badly. But then again we've only had 1 imperium army updated in 6th so far, then 2 chaos, 2 xeno. This might be the last book of the year.

Well, GW always updates the SM codex after a new release of the general rule book. Indeed, the SM codex needs some overhaul. Anti-air, Flyers, MCs and whatnot are in the trend.

I doubt there'll be no book releases in October and November.

Yes, because there's no Marine players, right?

Codex: Black Templars, which is part of the upcoming Vanilla Codex, is 8 years old and the oldest "current" Codex in the game. Through all of 5th edition people were calling for GW to update the Codices in order of oldest to newest. Now they're doing it.

I believe 'Nids are due before the end of the year, and SoB a loose "maybe". Orks are supposed to be the first book next year.

How many of you jokers that think C:SM doesn't need an update actually play the book?

And how many of you are unbiased and don't have some kind of irrational hatred against Space Marines?

C:SM needed an update badly. Did they DESERVE an update, especially before much older books or ones that need an update more like Orks and Tyranids? No. But C:SM definitely needed an update and if you think they don't, then you seriously need to rethink your opinion. There's no way 5E C:SM is on par with new books like Tau and Eldar and stronger old books like IG and Necrons.

Hail the Emperor.
