Subject: Help me make an Eldar list for my end of year masters event - 1800pts
|
 |
Screaming Shining Spear

We have an invite only event at the end of every year for the top 16 players of the year based of the scores from all the events across the year.
I won the event last year with straight Dark Eldar (irony much!) and have kept the pointy ear theme for my defence of this years title... but using Craftworld Eldar.
I have a vague list in mind at this stage...
Spirit seer
5 WGuard, WCannons
5 WGuard, WCannons
5WBlades, Axes (joined by spirit seer)
10 Dire Avengers, Waveserpent, TL Scatter laser, Shuriken cannon, holofields
5 Warp Spiders
5 Warp Spiders
WKnight, 2 Heavy WC
WKnight, 2 Heavy WC
WKnight, scatter laser, sun cannon
As you can see, its a mostly wraith list with the aspects providing a degree of dakka. Ultimately, the Knights will do the heavy lifting in the list.
I am not 100% sold on this though and am open to suggestions - I have more than enough elder to field what ever you can come up with - or would be happy to grab what I need. My only real stipulation is the list must have 2 Wraith Knights with heavy wraith cannons and at leats 1 unit of wraith infantry - guard or blades I am not fussed. Otherwise, go nuts!
Any help appreciated
Cheers

Just brainstorming here.
Spiritseer
2-3Wraithguard in Serpents
2x Wraithknight
Ally DE for a couple of venoms and poison, possibly a Ravager?

Disclaimer: I hate wraith lists
Why on earth would you play Eldar and focus on using MeQs? On top of that, wraithknights always underperform in shooty roles. They're used best as mobile medium-level threats. Take them naked IMO.
I prefer larger units of warpspiders, 7x is minimum for me, pref 9x+ so it takes 3 kills to force leadership.
A solo wave serpent won't do much for you IMO, they stack exponentially IMO, 2 being significantly better than 1, 3 far better than 2, etc. and your wraiths will need them.
I can't really see this list performing well against any competitive lists. It is way too slow and does not play to Eldar strengths.
I'm sorry if I come across as rude, I really don't mean to sound like a bastard.
Wraithknights are a fine threat when used in tandem with other more Eldar-y units like spiders, walkers, or guardians. They provide valuable board control, but are easy to ignore when they have no delivery system and make up the majority of your force.

I would combine your wraith troop squads if they are on foot. 10 man or go home. The shields and axes need ten, so do the WG. Your other option is to mech up.
Triple WK is powerful, and one suncannon is a good switch as 3 with the cannons would be overkill.
Consider running guardians instead of avengers to free up points.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

This has merit. I have about 8 serpents available to me so running it is not an issue. For the DE component, I had just figured in keeping it cheap with a couple of warrior/trueborn squads in venoms and a cheap archon... aiming for less than 450 points... though I wonder if tau would not do it better?

Not at all - I actually agree with you mostly. I do like the wraith theme (hence this idea) but agree you loose a great deal of the benefits elder gain. I will point out the Wraith units are far more than just MEQ though
I would run is as Iyanden so as to get battle focus on the seer at a minimum. I envisage the Knights as more bully style units, attacking armour early game and then assaulting mid/late game in groups either a pair of knights or with the WBlades. The serpent and avengers got in simply as I felt the list lacked mobile scoring. I would consider ditching the whole lot in favour of 2x3 wind riders and then more wraiths? Again, the 3rd knight I would happily trade in for other options - I love spiders and would probably bulk them out first

I have tried guardians in serpents - did not like it. The lack of range hurts - avengers can be in fire range turn 1 and survive small arms outside the tank to boot. The LD boost also ensures they hang around after loosing a couple.
@ALL
I did have a version of the list which used a laughingseer to buff the cannon knights and then just a single unit of wraithblades for tanking and the rest was serpent mounted. I will post that up shortly

Pretty much what I was thinking.
70 Spiritseer
305 Wraithguardx5 in SL SC HF Serpent
305 Wraithguardx5 in SL SC HF Serpent
355 Wraithscythesx5 in SL SC HF Serpent
240 Wraithknight
240 Wraithknight
That is already 1515, leaving too little for DE allies, and struggles with AA. Would have to drop a WG squad or drop them to DAs.

On top of that last list, windrider squads would preform much of your late game scoring needs. Those serpents and wraiths are going to be picking up a lot of slack.

Death is just the beginning, for those who walk the path of Valhalla. Flesh is the stuff of the enemy, transcend it, for only in spirit are the Eldar truly eternal. |
