Hi putting the models I currently have together to form the bases to my army...

100 - Librarian

185 - Tactical Squad (10) Plasma Gun, Plasma Cannon

100 - Scout Squad (5) 4x Sniper Rifles, ML, Camo Cloaks

115 - Assault Squad (5) Meltagun, MeltaBombs

500 - Hopefully I got the points correct....?

The idea is to have the librarian attached to the tactical squad, Scout Squad sits on a home objective, and assault squad jumps around to secure an objective late game...
Just starting warhammer and was planning BA but the 6th edition rules have killed my liking for them so..... Any ways, what do you think?

Looks like a good start!

The scout squad and AS loadouts look good, though I think that you should replace the PC on the TAC squad with a Lascannon.

Ahh yes that makes sense. thanks Won't that make it over 500 or only just?

Where would you take it from here? more tac squads and scouts?

Could potentially duplicate the army to get what would seem pretty decent....? (for 1000 points)

Everything looks good with one exception. I'd drop the melta on the assault squad and replace it with a flamer. Their main purpose is to get into hand to hand so they need an up close and personal weapon. If they get close enough before the assault you can template the squad you're aiming for. If not you at least get wall of death by having the flamer in there in case they're assaulted. A touch better than having to snap shot a melta weapon.

Oh yes that makes sense thanks. But then what about anti-tank? I thought maybe they could target armour as well...?

I've heard a bit about marneus calgar? is he any good and would he fit in at 500 points? Thanks

marneus calgar is 250 points without termy armour, that's way to much until you get to 2k size lists. C:SM sadly can't take meltas, so stick with that flamer. 500 is painfully small for marines as you get no points to spend on the good stuff. I can recommend taking Gates and either smite or avenger as the powers on your Libby. Gates for getting out of danger and objective grabbing.

Cool thanks, just found out that Assault squads can't hold objectives....? Are they still worth taking or taking something else?

I've found that assault marines are severely hit and miss. I personally like to stick a jump pack chaplain in with em when I field em. The re-rolls are nice when they work. I've had them really shine in a couple of games and then really make me wanna shelve them indefinitely from other games. They do ok against enemies of equal caliber. Usually anything stronger than that and they're only gonna tie whatever they assault for one round. Also I'd never run just 5 of em. If you're gonna run assault marines run in groups of 10.

Hmm ok, well if I keep the Assault marines for now...

What equipmwnt would you suggest for a 500 point army if the units were:

Librarian
Tactical Squad
Scout Squad (the equipment is set for them...)
Assault Squad

Thanks, (the scouts would be having 4x Sniper 1x ML and camo cloaks)

Oh... no vehicles please...

Your original posted list looks good. Just swap the melta on the assaults for a flamer and you should be set.

Your last list looked fine.

I like my librarians bare-bones. Just power armor and a force staff.

You tac squad is probably going to spend a lot of time walking, so generally I like the free weapons. Why pay points for something you are just going to be snap firing? That said, you might be combat squadding, and lack good AT fire, so the LC is not a bad call.

I like 5 man assault squads with flamers. Quick, fun, harassment units. If you can scrape the points together, the sarge would love a power weapon (I like swords, which is best is very meta-dependant) Most tanks are AV10 in the back, so melta bombs might be unnecessary at 500 points. But assault sergeants are at the top of the list where there is a spare 5 points and the bombs do get handed out.
