Ive been thinking about doing orks for a long time and I finally decided to take the plunge. I know that they are getting a new book next year but I dont see sluggas, shootas, lootas, trukks and battlewagons changing much so I should be fine. My question is, how old is the current ork boys kit and will they likely be getting an update with the new book

Eh when the Codex came out so about 2008. Have a look for the Black Reach Boyz though far cheaper to make a horde with.

Warbuggies you can just tell theyre old by the style used. I have one i got in a bundle and i never opened it, was looking at it earlier and i just thought "This looks like a different army...with bandit orks riding it"

Boyz are probably just as old as the current dex, which is pretty old but not oldest.

My current boyz are from AOBR and the box set. I don't see GW changing them, considering that they are the core of most armies.

Boys go back to 3rd ed.
Lootas came later (lootas or burnaboys in the box, you end up with spare arms for the other ones).

The Ork Boyz kit is still good'n'kickin', I don't see why they'd update it when there are a lot of Ork army list entries that don't have a kit/official model at all.

I have 40 boyz from 2 battleforces and the 20 boyz from AoBR, personally.

The kit was recut in 2008 I think, but the models themselves haven't changed for the last 13 years. They're not likely to change imo, since all the newest kits are based on them.

Considering how detailed they are, I don't think there is any need to update them. If they update MANz, buggies, flash gits and put some AOBR sprues in deff kopta boxes, orks would have nothing but decent models. Some of our finecast HQs could use plastic blisters though, I have yet to find an undamaged/unwarped KFF mek and most weirdboyz are warped to the point where the gretchin holding it can't be attached at all.
