This list is based around models I have an WYSIWYG (hence the one combi-melta in the sternguard)
HQ:
1 Librarian w/TDA, Stormbolter, Force Weapon (Axe), GoI, Null Zone 130
Elite:
5 Sternguard w/1 Combi-melta 130
1 Dreadnought w/Multimelta, CC+SB 105
1 Dreadnought w/AC,(ML or CC+Flamer) 125
Troops
10 Tac. w/Flamer,multi-melta,CS+BP 170
10 Tac. w/Flamer,H. Bolter, CS+BP 170
Fast:
3 bikes w/Meltagun,Plasmagun 115
Hvy:
Whirlwind w/SB 90
5 Devastators w/Lascannon,ML,ML,ML 170
Basic plan is for the Libby to join the Sternguard and use GoI to get them in the best places to shoot and act as a tank for incoming fire and challenges. The Dev. squad will set up somewhere with good fire coverage and apply the signum to the Lascannon. Whirlwind will acta as either a softener or finisher for the LIbbyguard. The bike squad will be a harassment unit in non-Scouring games with enough punch you can't just ignore it. The dreads will either acts as back field support against DS armies or advance with Tac squads for close fire support. Not sure which arm load out to use on the second dread, but both have there uses.
Would it be stronger to split the Tac squad in to combat squads for Hvy weapon team to stay mid field while the "assault" team advances or keep them all as one unit?

For the Dread, I would use the DCCW as you will need to get relatively close to use the AC anyway. That way, you always have the option to assault something should the oppurtunity arise, and if it's a vehicle, have a descent chance of destroying it.
I almost feel 2 tac squads is too few at 1000 points, and would drop the WW for another tac squad or 6 scout snipers to babysit an objective. WWs are overcosted at the moment, although the new codex should drop them to the 65 points DA pay for them, making them usable, but for now, more scoring bodies seem a better investment.
Either way, combat squad in all missions but kill points, it helps with target saturation and reduces potential damage. However, you don't want an assault team as such, tacs really belong no further forward than the mid field.
GOI and sternguard is a good trick, just be careful not to overextend, as left in the open away from the rest of the army, 7 MEQ wounds are not hard to remove. giving Slay The Warlord as well. Focus on targets you can comfortably destroy or cripple, and remember you don't have to GOI every turn, sometimes it is better to move normally or even hold still. Try and keep them away from CC if you can. If you are challanged by anything dangerous, accept with the Segeant, not the libby, as on wound from a PF or TH, or two from wascythe/axe ect are pretty easy to get through, and will give away one and possibly 2 VP. Don't rely on the 5++ to keep you alive.
The setup for the devs is fine, should hurt most vehicles and do a bit of anti-horde as well.
Hope that helps.

Oh, I agree with not really charging things as a go to, but I think Chain Sword+ bolter and Flamer, make for a better assaulty unit to clear a far objective for a last minute grab than the a 4 bolters and a heavy weapon. Also hoping 2 dreads midfield can cause enough issues.
Locally the WhirlWind is gold, a lot Tau and eldar/ DE players which it is really good at thinning, not much MEQ.
Hope that helps.

Aha, I can see the worth of the WW then, and as I said, the new codex next month will only make them better. At 65 points for DA, they are a steal.
Yeah, I get what you mean about the flamer+Sgt being better for objective clearing, but if going for this, make sure you remeber to fire bolt pistols and lob a krak grenade when charging, as any casualties you can cause before CC are a bonus. Dreads certainly add strength to the midfield, but try and avoid meltas and the like, they will wreck them. Also watch out for power fists and warscythes, as they will do the same. Other than that, the list seems good to go. Good luck.

Thanks for the eyeball, normally a Tau/Nid player, but figured I needed to get some use out off my marines. Not sure I will get used to an actual Armor Sav or decent BS.

I know what you mean, when I went from a long spell of playing guard to C: SM again, it was odd having 10 guys do the damage I was used to 30 grunts doing!
