Subject: Imperial Guard Platoon question
|
 |
Dark Angels Neophyte Undergoing Surgeries

Hi guys,
so I have stared to put a Imperial Guard army together and I have a few different types of infantry, jungle fighters, iron guard, Armageddon steel.
This is what I have so far,
HQ
1 commissar Yarrick
1 Cadian Company Command Squad,
with medic, standard, vox caster, melta gun.
Troops
Infantry platoon Squad x 4
1 Cadian, 1 Armageddon steel, 1 Iron guard, 1 jungle fighter
Infantry squad x 5
2 Cadian, 1 Armageddon steel, 1 Iron guard, 1 jungle fighter
Heavy weapons squad x 2
1 Iron guard, 1 Cadian
2 commissars
I have the codex and I understand how the Army should be put together, 1 HQ, and 2 troops as standard.
but do I need to / Can I have a separate platoon command squad for each different model type?
in the unit type description it doesn't say unique, so should I be able to have more than 1 Platoon command squad?

For each platoon to be legal you MUST have 1 Platoon Command Squad and at least 2 Infantry Squads.
In your example above you are missing the required Platoon Command Squad for each of your two platoons.
Note that your Commisars are an upgrade to either a PCS or an infantry squad, and similarly a HWT must belong to a platoon.

Thanks for the answer so I would have to get another 10 man squad for each different model type. So 1 iron guard, 1 jungle fighter, 1 steel. to make up the troops to 2 squads.
Could I not just combine the model types to make up the numbers? like the Iron guard and steel under one platoon Command, and the jungle fighters with the Cadian Platoon command?

There are no rules any longer for mordian, cadian etc - theyre all just infantry squads. So you need a 5 man PCS for the infantry squads you have.
Model them however you like, in the standard Guard codex a 10 man infnatry squad is the same as another 10 man infantry squad when part of a platoon.

It looks to me like you can split the extra Cadian squad in the second platoon into two 5 man squads. Then just swap arms/head until you have it equipped the way you want your commands equipped.
As long as you have legal numbers you are good. Just make up some back story about a mixed company fighting it's way back to the main line of attack/defense.

I think I see your confusion.
Modrian, Cadian, Catachan, it doesn't matter, if you are using the rules from Codex: IG, then all of your guys follow the rules laid out in Codex: IG. Now, if you play one of the lists from Forge World, like Elysians, then they have their own rules detailed in their own book.
Second, an infantry platoon is one troops choice. Each infantry platoon needs a Platoon Command Squad, and two Platoon Infantry Squads, plus any additional you want to place (the limits are listed in your codex). this means that if you are fielding 1 HQ choice and 2 troops choice, you need:
1x Company Command Squad
2x Platoon Command Squads (one for each platoon)
4x Platoon Infantry Squad (2x in each platoon)
The layout in Codex: IG can be a little confusing. I suggest setting your models out in a formation as you build each choice from the codex, to visualize the groupings.
