Hey, I'm a new player to 40k (sort've, I played back in the days of 3rd ed. but am just now trying to get back into the hobby.) I used to be Blood Angels but I thought I'd give the baddies a go and try my hand at Chaos. Here's what I'm thinking:

Chaos lord with bike, sigil, Black Mace, MoS
Seekers of Slaanesh x5 w/ champion

Maulerfiend, magnacutters

Trilas predator

Heldrake, baleflamer
Heldrake, baleflamer

Cultists x15, bare

Daemonettes x15 w/ champion who has greater gift
Herald of Slaanesh w/ locus of beguilement

This all comes to 1100 points, leaving 400 left to use. I'm pretty sure those should go into CSM in rhinos. Amiright? Anyways, the plan is to take the Maulerfiend as fast as it will go at things, while the pred, lord with seekers and rhinos, should I choose to add them follow. The cultist do what cultists do and sit on an objective. The daemonettes and herald deepstrike into the enemies' backfield.

The biggest issue I see with this is the armor train made with the maulerfiend. Do you think it's viable? I intend to make a little pocket for lord and seekers with the Maulerfiend, the pred and the rhinos (or vindicator?) Do you think this tactic is viable? There's also a cool trick with the daemonettes, in that the herald's lesser locus would let the unit move through cover, making them seem almost perfect for following the Maulerfiend. Lastly, I think I'm limiting myself by only using Slaanesh (hounds would be awesome.) I really like the idea though.

Thoughts? Tear it apart, people.

Hell yes! Another Slaaneshi! Now on a serious note, Maulerfiends are cool but you have to suffer with getting him there to maul anything. In which, he'll die on the way there. You might actually be better of using another pred or rocking two vindis, because demolisher cannon.

You need a lot more troops. Bring more noise marines

Ok so here a revised list with another troop choice thrown in:

Chaos Lord w/ bike, sigil, Black Mace, MoS
Seekers x5 w/ Heartseeker who has greater reward

Maulerfiend

Trilas Predator

Noise Marines x10 w/ blastmaster x2, doom siren, Icon of Excess, Rhino

Cultists x15

Herald of Slaanesh w/ locus of beguilement
Daemonettes x15 w/ alluress

1420

Basically same plan as before. Rhino is added to the armor train going up the middle, then drops off noise marines for a midfield objective. Cultists sit and hide. Daemonettes make chaos (hehe) and maybe try to aggressively steal an objective. I'm still left with 80 points. I'm either thinking suicide-drop an obliterator behind enemy's line, add another unit of cultists for objective camping, or add a pair of seeker chariots to accompany the armored fist. This might seem laughable, but they're fast, so can keep up, and if the opponent wastes shots on them that's shots not going to more priority targets. Plus if they do make it to the for they'll do something ... right? Guys? Right?

Also, I feel a little uneasy about the Noise Marines; the unit comes to 320 points by itself. That's a lot to put in ten models and a rhino I feel...

As someone who's absolutely conquered Orks and Eldar with just my dubstep guns, trust me when I say not to fear the mighty WUB Marine's cost.

Adding 7 noisemakers on to the unit would only cost 21 points... do you think it's worth it to do that and drop the two seeker chariots for say, one Hellflayer?

Only add the Sonciblasters if that unit plans to not move anywhere. Salvo really made me unhappy when I first tried using my Nosiemarines in the way I was used to back in 2nd/3rd, as mobile firepower.

However, standing still lets them put out quite a lot of firepower!

Definitely add the sonic blasters even if you plan on moving around. Jam that rhino up into threat range first turn, disembark ASAP (24" range means you don't want them sitting back at home base where they can be avoided to death). Yes it's unfortunate that when they move they lose a shot, but they'll still be firing more than most marines ALL of the time, AND if it comes down to the nitty gritty they're going before everyone but DE. Not to mention their overwatch is boss-tastic.

Durable as hell since they're already marines, who destroy you for trying to get into CC, go first once you do get there, and have FNP on top of that.
Great at range, since nobody can hide from their Metal roar.
And they're scoring!

My 2c on Maulerfiends; love 'em almost as much as my buddies hate 'em. But if you're going to bring one... bring two. Make sure one makes it into the other guy's junk, or else what's the point? And I would say they're not tough enough to use as a cover wall while also expecting them to make it into happy-tank-go-boom land. They can get focused down just like anything else.

I could live with losing a shot while moving, it's the halved range on Salvo that ticks me off!

So it seems like the Maulerfiend, probably understandably, is getting some hate. I tried revamping the list in light of this, while still keeping the Slaanesh theme. I'm now looking at something like;

Lord w/ bike, sigil, MoS and black mace.
Seekers x5, w/ heartseeker w/ lesser gift

Herald of Slaanesh w/ locus of beguilement
Daemonettes x14 w/ alluress

Cultists x15

Noise Marines x10 w/ x7 sonic blasters, x2 blastmasters, champion has doom siren & power sword
Rhino

Heldrake w/ baleflamer x2

Trilas pred x2

1497

Tactics are pretty much the same as before, except instead of rushing forward the lord + seekers with use outflank and accute senses to get a favorable table edge to come in on.

I have a few worries with this list; 1. Lack of models. For the first turn the 15 cultists will be the only exposed infantry on the board, and even in cover/going to ground I think it feasible they get wiped out. 2. There's a lot of really light infantry. I'm not sure if the seekers can survive long enough to act as a delivery system for the lord. With no saves and little else for infantry saturation, a lot of enemy fire will probably hit them once they hit the board. Same problem with the daemonettes, if the seekers come on turn 2, say, are killed, the daemonettes come on turn 3, are killed, that's a big part of my army's key components. 3. There's a lot of anti-infantry/MeQ in this list (Heldrakes & Noise Marines, I'm looking at you). Should two las preds be enough anti-big stuff? I do like the the saturation of vehicles, though.

Thoughts on the new line-up?
