where are the best places in the DFW area to go for non-GW gaming. Shoot lets even include GW I have some orks and angels of vengence wing i need to put to use on occasion. I know of Area 51 in Grapevine and Reaper in Denton. Also Big World in Carrolton. But where are some other shops? I really am looking for something like dragons lair in Austin.

Madness in Plano on Custer and Parker. Huge board game RPG and CCG crowd. TT wise it's 40k, Infinity and WM/H.

Avantgarde thanks for the heads up! I know of madness in Denton I didnt know there was another Madness in the area. Pretty cool since I pass through Plano often. I have been curious about infinity as well.. but mainly looking for someone to play WM/H against. Sadly I actually live about an hour north of DFW.. which is a killer since I'm from Houston and I know all the established gaming locations in that area.

Yeah no idea if they're owned by the same guy or what. They've been around forever and ownership changed hands at least once in the past. Anyways they just moved to that location 2 months ago and it's pretty much a big box store for nerds with a large chunk of the store open for gaming. It's worth checking out at least once since they stock almost every semi popular TT game.

There's also a Hobbytown in Plano on Central Expressway that was popular with WM/H players for the last few years, but the store moved to their current location recently and I haven't stepped foot inside for months.

Try Gunslinger Games in Dallas. I've also heard good things about Texas Toy Soldier, but haven't been there myself.

Thursday night is 40k at Gunslinger. There is usually a group of 5-7 people there painting and playing. Good crowd, very welcoming.

Also try looking at a local site: dfw40k.com

The new Hobbytown location is larger than their old store, but they have eliminated the gaming tables, so no games - at least for now. There is a little construction / set-up work still going on against the back wall, but it doesn't look to me like there is space there for tables.

They have a good selection of models, at 20% off list however.

The new store feels smaller than the old one. I'm sure the tile is contributing to that. The store is located at 75 South and Parker in Plano.

Gunslinger has Warmachine/Hordes on Saturdays, not sure how many people still show up to it. I know they also had it on Wednesday nights for a while.

I think Comic Asylum in Richardson also does some WM/H. I would call ahead before visiting though.

Madness, as mentioned before, does have some tables set up but is mostly designed for card players. There may be a small turn up of people on the weekend to play in their new store for WM/H, 40k, and Fantasy.

Texas Toy Solider in Farmers Branch does sell WM/H products, but I've never actually seen anybody playing up there. They are mostly historical wargames and 40k.

If you head south to Keller there is also Sci-Fi Factory which has a few gaming tables in a large store on North Beach and Southlake Blvd.

Even further south is Y2Komics and EvoGames both in Fort Worth about 5 minutes apart of from each other.

For GW there is GW Frisco and GW Denton. Grapevine closed and will not be opening in a new location in the foreseeable future.

HTD and HTP both have models. I don't know if Allen at TTS could order them for you or not though, as FoW is big there. But I know for a fact HTD has Hasegawa models in 1/72.

HTP has a small selection and next to no tanks in 1/72 nor infantry. I need to go back HTD they had a much better selection!

DFW area Texas - Rarely

Good thread...

While I don't play there often I can say that madness in plano has a lot of wargaming going on. Yes, they have a lot of magic/board gaming tables....in fact, that area is larger than most other game stores.

But, the place is huge, and their wargaming/terrain table space is also bigger than many other stores. I see a lot of 40k, warmachine etc. going on there. I have not seen infinity or flames of war, but I am only in there once in a while.

I had not been to the new hobbytown plano location - thats a bummer if they are phasing out the wargaming area....I know justifying the space might just not have worked for them.

I see a lot of flames of war and saga going on a texas toy soldier, and a lot of 40k and some fantasy.

As far as the scale tanks goes, I have no other useful info, sorry. :( Once in a while I see some tamaya ww2 kits at hobby lobby, but not a huge selection.

best of luck!

Well, I'm the one that posted no tables. There were none when I visited about two weeks ago. I posted on that thread to see if the tables were going to be permanent, or if they are being set up only for a tournament.

I'll try to stop by this weekend some time and verify.

I finally stopped back in. They do have a small room in the back of the store with some tables set up. It does look pretty cramped space-wise, but at least they are there.

Try Gunslinger Games on Thursday nights. I'm in the general area, but most of my free time is in an escalation league right now.

Hobbytown USA, Plano (75 & Parker) is about to start a new escalation league.

Check dfw40k.com for FLGS and general discussion.

The DFW40k website is closed and has been reopened under http://www.texas40k.com

You can also find the facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/texas40k

There is a current Winter Escalation League that is at 1000 points and increases every two weeks by 250 points, to a make of 2000 points. There should be an apocalypse mega battle at the end of league too.

Hey guys. I just recently picked up a 40k squad and am looking for an existing group that doesn't mind teaching the game to a noob. I live in Frisco but am willing to drive or can host at my place for the right group. Shoot me a pm if interested.

The Texas40k page is DEAD and has been for some time (for good reason). For 40k your better bet is to head over to the DFW 40k Meet-up page.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/322315597863267/

I've seen almost everything played at Texas Toy Soldier, plus they have the best prices.
