Subject: Is there a Cover Save for Skimmers Behind an Aegis Line?

In a recent 40K game a couple skimmers were placed behind an Aegis line. The skimmers stands had broken and the skimmers were just resting on the table. Presumably if the skimmers were on their original stands the bulk of the vehicle would essentially hover over the the Aegis line. So, via True line of sight doctrine, if a skimmer is behind an Aegis Line does it get the Aegis line (4+) cover save? Would Tau landing gears make a difference?
Please reference the rulebook page # if you have a definitive answer.
Thank You.

Is it 25% obscured? If so, it gets the cover save. If not then no. pg 74.

True line of Sight.
Nothing further needed.
If the bases are broken, then these models are not rules-legal.

So then on a Devilfish (or variant) always use the landing gears and never use a stand (?)--If you want the save. And all other skimmers (especially Eldar) if you play them RAW, you must have them on a stand, which will inevitably remove their save--is that correct?

True line of sight, yes, but skimmers NEED a base or you'll run into sketchy stuff like this. If they break the base, magnetize them or have a spare base handy for LOS purposes.

Sticking landing gears on the model doesn't let you not use the base it's supplied with.

The Devilfish no longer has a vehicle upgrade that allows it to be removed from its flying base.

You have no permission to use the landing gear; havent for 2 editions of codex now, from memory. You HAVE to use the stand.
If you do not use the stand, either height supplied, then you will be assumed to be using the stand when being shot at, in any event I know of. Stops dubious "but it JUST broke" arguments.

It works both ways. If your opponent is claiming the cover save because he is not using the proper stand then be adamant when he tries to shoot. The Hull and Shuriken Cannon will be nearly on the ground and he can't draw LOS to shoot with them.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

Even when you could take Landing Gears, there was nothing that allowed the stand to be removed.
