Starting a wood elf army that I plan to do heavy converting and spend a good amount of time painting.
It's probably been done before or even brought up before on here but I really want to paint them with a "drow" theme!
I play a lot of dnd and my fave race is drow and I've always wanted to start this concept up for WFB!
Anyways any recommendations for how to go about a paint scheme? How to do good black flesh or maybe even tinted slightly grey or blue or purple? What's a good color for armor playing? Leather?
I plan to get 2 battalion boxes and convert 14 of the glade riders into centaurs an use them as wild riders, also going to make centaurs out of my hereo spell weaver and plan to get an elk head and antlers for the great stag my noble will ride. Another point! Does anyone here know we're to get good elk antlers in this scale from? Thank you all in advanced for any responses!

P.S. I am going for a snowy drow theme if that helps at all!

That's a great idea and the drow are cool. Drizzt is exceptionally awesome...

I think the main thing about tackling the paint is distinguishing where the contrast will come in to the model. The skin tone is normally the greatest contrast on models but amongst Drow, they are pretty much black skin on black leather.

Personally, if this were my project, I would do a normal elf skin tone but give it a light wash with a thinned grey/black paint and if it's not dark enough, keep adding layers. Keep the bright white hair and do the black leather with a gloss varnish over the leather so it has a shiny appearance like treated leather.

That's actually one of the major pictures I like to use for reference! I'd really like to be able to paint some kind of colored tattoos on then but I'm not THAT confident with my detail work on such small faces etc! Anyways the point is I'd like em to have either dark skin(black or dark grey) or like a purpleish or blueish hue and don't how to go about that look in wood elves models. Possibly also thinking of doing either dark green armour with gold trim or maybe a snowy grey armour(as both a contrast to the dark skin and a way to show they are "snowy drow")

No pointer in elk heads huh? I really would love to fin how I could get my hands on some!

thats exactly where i was going to eventually order the bits from(just the heads as ill have plenty of deer-like horse bodies from the glade rider kits. i really wanted to make them all riding deer or elk, but i opted for the fact that ill probably just end up doing centaur conversions, though i would like one or two or my characters on Elks so i may just buy two or three of the head and antler bits from Privateer., unless someone shows me how to cast, which i would then only buy ONE head but and antlers and cast the rest for myself. i kinda want my centaurs to have antlers anyway, so i gotta figure something out, without paying ridiculous prices from Privateer to get a full unit of elk riders(the raptors box is EXPENSIVE, and wont come with enough bits for me to convert all 8 of the glade riders that come in the first battalion box im grabbing next week!
