Do you have any particular vision for your Hive Fleet?
There's only 1 really successful build for a competitive army, but if you want to build the army to be what YOU want it to be, then you 'll need to decide whether you want it to be shooting or assault, swarmy or swarmier.
I'd start with your hive tyrant. Flyrants are pretty cool, being flying monsterous creatures. But if you want a walking one instead, I'd invest in some Tyrant Guard.
As for Termagants, currently spike rifles and the tanglewebs are garbage. You're better of euipping them with either Fleshborers or Devourers. Devourers double the price of the models, but they pump out 3 S4 18" hits per model, which, even at 10 models is a lot. But for the same price you can get 20 fleshborer termagants with a gun that has the profile of an assault 1 bolter with a 12" range. So it bils down to more shots or more bodies.
Devourers are good on the Warriors too, since they impose a -1 penalty on leadership in the event that the target unit is required to make a morale test.
Hormagaunts should just run ahead and out of synapse since if they fail their out-of-synapse leadership test they gain Rage with is +1 attack. Give them poison to even the odds against stronger opponents like MEQ, give them poison and adrenal glands to give them furious charge and make them capable of glancing light armour to dead and they basically become moving slaughter houses.
For your Genestealers I'd invest in a Broodlord because he is a BEAST. Building them with Schything talons lets them reroll 1's and the adding poison is a near-guarantee that you will destroy any non-heavy vehicle unit. They are pretty delicate though, so for tactics, I'd infiltrate since they can't assault out of outflank. Base Genestealers are still very good though.
I always say that you should make your army what you want it to be. Find what you like and what works best for you.

it depends on how competitive you want to be.
if you want a shot at actual competiveness then forget about half the dude in the codex and most of the battleforce itself.
Warriors are no good since a str8+ shot will auto kill it and we do have a good few large blast Str8+ wielders in the game so warriors just tend to just die horibbly
hormagaunts are bad only because GW made the horrible mistake of making the upgrades be 2pts a piece instead of 1 pts a piece which is what it should cost and isnt worth more so getting gaunts is saying "well I like these guys enough that I am willing to put a handicap on myself to play with the guys I want. this team of 20 horm should only cost 160 pts but I am paying 200pts, yay!!"
Genestealers are almost good but then not quite, this edition forces them to stay out in the open for a turn giving your opponent a free turn of shooting (plus overwatch) before they can reach their prey in close combat. they are very good in close combet which is nice but since they have a 5+ Arsv they die easily to bolters/Flamers and the opponent shouldnt let them reach CC unless he suck.
Rippers are not very good either, compare them to other swarms in other codex and weep.
Lictors are complete crap, should be only 45pts but are 65pts
Ravener are pretty bad suffering from the same Str8+ weakness as the warriors and also the Genestealers weakness against bolters and flamers due to their 5+ ArSv, and need to allow the opponent to shoot at them before closing in on them.
pyrovore sucks gigantic balls
and Tyranofex is quite crap too
now the good dudes
Flyrants with double Devourer is solid
Tervigon is one of the best troop in the entire game, most build are good
Doom of Malantai is a freaking beast, put him in a spore and watch him get all the attention due to his ultimate nastyness
Zoanthropes are good in this edition due to new psychic powers making them more versatile. put them in a spore and use regular codex powers or keep them in the back as support with biomancy
Hive Guards are also very good, especially since eldars came out as they ignore jink saves
Ymgarl genestealers are decent, too expensive by about 2 pts each if you ask me but still decent as they can charge the turn they come in. they do lose scoring and the potential for a broodlord which is annoying but still easier to get your points worth out of them than regular genestealers
Notice the elite slot is very popular in Nids
Trygons are good, best to keep them naked or maybe with toxin sacs at most, prime upgrade is not so good due to him becomming a character, allowing the opponent to chalenge you and then your wasting all your attacks on a little 20 pts champion, also keeps him from being able to rage.
mawlocs arent great due to their lack of shooting attack but is possible to use them efficiently enough
Swarmlord is a beast, give him a guard or two and Biomancy and he can attract alot of attention and can one on one anyone in the entire game.
Harpies I personnaly dont like that much but I heard are decent anti infantry and I figure if you get a couple of flyrants will be low on the priority list of the opponent so could be used well.
biovore are good, allowing you some very decent long range anti infantry shooting.
Guargoyles are fantastic, costing 1 pts more than termagaunts, for that single point they become jump infantry (awesome) and get to auto wound on 6s in CC, plus they get the upgrades at 1pts a piece so go ahead and upgrade em.
so tactic-wise your gonna want to over saturate a particular thing that Nids do well.
what do Nids do well?
a few things, namely your gonna need to choose between a huge swarm of little dudes or Giants badasses.
then you can choose between a deepstriking list or one that slowly (not that slowly really but still... not that fast ) shambles forward.
see what you can do with this and ill check you out again later

Im still im afganistan so i havent toyed much beyond what i have and i do preffer to just swarm in a mass of melee out here i was useing my warrior with a strangle thorn to force people to ground as i ran in.
But you also need to understand i was learning this game out here so i am also missing out on how to do certain things.
Also i got in an argument about genestealers with scything talons and rending claws over the abilitys stacking

Genestealer do keep their rending ability if they get scything talons.
when it comes to warriors, I would recomend keeping them as cheap as possible and adding alot of other targets for the opponents st8+ shots for them to survive a bit.
This would normally mean that they work best in nidzilla armies but then the Tervigon is a better troop choice for those.
its quite possible to convert the warriors into hive guards and those are quite good. check on the internet for examples and you might have fun. Automatically Appended Next Post: What point value do you play at?
1000pts, 1500pts or 2000pts?
