So, my buddy has settled on building Blood Angels as his next army. Normally I wouldn't worry, as they are more-or-less an assault marine army in an edition skewed to make assaults trickier. But he has decided to take Mephiston as his HQ.

Now, against my Word Bearers army, I wouldn't be scared at all. I'd just throw a terminator squad at him and laugh maniacally as his force sword bounces off most of my armor, before he gets fisted to death.

But my current project is a Monster Mash list led by Fateweaver.

Spoiler:

At 1850 points:

Fateweaver

Great Unclean One
ML 3, Exalted Reward, Greater Reward

10 Plaguebearers

10 Plaguebearers

10 Plaguebearers

Nurgle Daemon Prince
ML 3, Wings, Armor, 2 Greater Rewards

Nurgle Daemon Prince
ML 3, Wings, Armor, 2 Greater Rewards

Allies:
Nurgle Daemon Prince
Wings, Armor, The Black Mace

10 Cultists
Flamer

GUO keeps Grimoire up on Fateweaver.

Princes and GUO are level 3 Biomancy.

So, how would I take care of Mephiston? He'd likely kill any of my MCs, and he'll slaughter my Plaguebearers too, wouldn't he?

Edit: fixed spelling error and clarified title

Roll for Iron Arm and you'll be fine. If you don't get it, kite him.

Looked through the Psychic power tables again, I guess I could give Fateweaver the Psychic Shreik power and hope for a good roll.

Try and knock off a wound with Fateweaver's shooting and then double team him with your Nurgle DPs. You've got higher initiative and WS, and Mephiston has no invulnerable save. If you get Warp Speed or Iron Arm you shouldn't have any trouble. Even without them you can probably kill him before he strikes using Smash attacks (4-5 attacks on the charge, hitting on 3's, wounding on 2's).

Take the Balesword on the Nurgle DP & Instant Death Mephiston.

Mephiston frightens me. I have nightmares with him in it.

I tell my friend that whenever I kill Mephiston, I win the game and when he lives to the end I lose: No matter what. i dont care what the final score is. If he's dead, I win.

My friend is somewhat resistant to thsi system as you might imagine. But I dont care. I'll spend my entire army shooting that bastard just to see him removed. I find him a cheeky choice and worthy of my hatred.

I hates him I does. I hates him.

So whatever you can do to waste his ass: do it.

Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.

Ok, cool. I didn't know whether I had I higher initiative or not. I know princes are fast, but didn't know exactly what Mephy's initiative was.

Mephiston lost an edge in the new edition. His sword is only AP3 but this is still enough against a DP. As said, if you can kite him, fine. Also the balesword is an option.

Problem is, Mephy will normally be in terrain. Don't step to him unless you have Iron Arm. Shriek and kiting works well too (what I normally do)

That's interesting. In BA mirror matches I find him kinda lame.

In several match ups he can still be a beast.

Perhaps, but I think his price tag is too steep given that there are match up where he does nothing but die. Besides, the demon codex is so much better than BA atm, there's no way Mephiston should be able to turn the tide. Especially since the BA player is paying at least 1/8 of his point to bring the guy.

Very helpful... was it a Bloodthirster or Keeper of Secrets?

Bloodthirster, KoS and LoC could probably all lay down the smackdown on mephiston.

LoC is in there because a 305pt LoC rolling 2 divination and taking flickering fire (or 3 divination) with 2 greater and 1 lesser gift is stupid hard to kill. If you get procognition on a Lord of Change, he will be stupid strong. Greater rewards can give all sorts of survivable perks too. With the staff he becomes S8.

I believe it was the keeper of secrets, it most definitely was not a blood thirster.
