I'd seriously recommend dropping GoM and the Fist on the raptors; they NEED Meltaguns if you're going to bother at all. Can't charge the turn they DS, so no reason to kit them for CC. And melta is what they're best at. 2x Melta & a combi-melta on the champ, if you can. After they land and take out the vehicle of your choice, they're free to tie someone up in CC assuming any of them survive until the next turn.

I would say drop the Raptors, the GoM on the Champs and get another Drake. The hell the can do is awesome.

Then get rid of one Oblit and fist on the lord. Give your lord the BM, BG, MB and rhinos extra armour. Your lord can also get a +4 invul instead of the +5.

Hope this helps.

Helloes,

I would say drop GoM from plague marines and rather take combi-weapon to your champion. Then you get that one more extra shot (two with plasma gun) when needed. Take combi-flamer if you think you could benefit more from one flamer template. I really vote for combi-weapons over GoM.

Raptors are good unit but heldrake and bikers really are better choices. Even three bikes with 2 plasma guns can really be pain, they are quite hard to destroy compared to raptors. If you really want to use and deepstrike your raptors, take those 2 special weapons and that combi-weapon for one alpha, hope it kills what was planned and then, IF they survive, go after other targets. If you are going against more foot slogging armies, Three plasma guns on raptors can really hurt TEQ and MEQ, so consider that too. They also can break most of vehicles if they can shoot to rear armor. (I love new raptor models so I can understand that you want to field them! )

One heldrake is enough, two if you really want more. I rather take more obliterators, havocs or troops.

Lord and spawns are solid choice. If you want to get them faster to enemy lines, then bikes but spawns have more attacks and wounds.

Vindicator, I really recommend that daemonic possession, you want that shoot every turn. One shaken or stunned really will ruin your day. Then, take that combi-bolter so first weapon destroyed don't automatically make your mighty vindicator a tracked piece of terrain...

Last note. You have 2 scoring units, in objective game this can be a problem (5/6 from bbb missions are objective based). Maybe adding small cultist unit to keep objective?

Sgraz =)

Thanks for the advice everyone!

The raptors I will definitely take a look at . 3 plasma guns could be either really effective or really hilarous depending on the dice gods. I was intending to hop them up the board through cover and los. ( everybody uses boatloads of cover at my lgs) ill probaby go melta for tank/termie busting though.

Ill be sticking with the spawn. As is I've got 15 T6 bodyguard
wounds for the lord and they'll be spearheading so he'll need it.

Can't take more than one heldrake. Hoards of tau players at my local store. Way too risky.

I dont have my rulebook on me but I seem to remember extra vehicle armor not being so great.

I do like to take my Plague Marines out for a spin once in a while, and I usually have the 2 melta squad and 2 plasma squad. I wouldn't bother with the Extra Armor on Rhinos. They'll get popped one way or another. But I love the idea of combi-weapons for the Champions rather than Gift of Mutation, that helps them fill their role much better. If you get to go first zip those Rhinos up 12" then Flat Out 6" every time. If you go second, consider keeping them in Reserves and bringing them in from the board edge, placing your objectives closer to your side where they can come in to hold them, or so they can come in 6", disembark within 6" and then shoot enemies with all the meltas and plasmas.

Why is taking a Heldrake risky vs the Tau? I guess they do have Interceptor on whatever those suits are called, but Heldrakes would roast the whole lot of them, and they can always take their invul save too, no need to Jink. But spamming 2 Drakes is not 'polite' I guess. Obliterators are excellent anyway. The Vindicator can be useful, but very situational. I have luck with them half the time....the other half they become worthless junk Turn 1. Too bad we can't deepstrike those

Definitely just 2 meltas and a combi-melta on the Raptors. Then you can give the Fist cost to your Lord for a Sigil of Corruption.

I do like the Gift of Mutation on the Lord however, fun potential bonus. The Fist/Claw is actually a nice combo too. versatile. The Black Mace vs Tau is certainly effective, but against a Riptide, whom you probably want your Lord to go after, I don't think the Mace would do too much being AP4 even though it's Fleshbane. Even the Curse requires him to suffer an unsaved wound to take Toughness Tests, so it's very unlikely to kill it. And it will kill all Troops and unsuited Tau way to quickly, leaving your command exposed for shooting after that easy killing. The Fist vs a Riptide however will probably do a great job of whooping it's ass, and at T6 the Riptide can't Instant Death you with Smash and the Sigil is good protection. The Spawns can eat the remaining Riptide stragglers.

If you should be able to play a bigger game, consider adding a Daemon Prince of Nurgle with the Black Mace and make him a Mastery Level 3 psyker. Those are loads of fun! And the Mace is WAAAAY better on a Daemon Prince.

Tau do have intercepter but you will maybe have to use terrain to hide them behind for 1 turn to get a +4. Then go about killing everything else. I think the Riptides only have 1 shot(not sure) and the command have a few(stay away from them when the drakes come in.

Some people don't like extra armor but if I have a squad that can't move for a turn, they will be a big target in your opponents turn. If I need them to get to an objective, they have to move.

My list.

Lord PW/MoN/ BG/ GoB<----Warlord (Just get the PM's)
D. Prince MoN/BM/Wings/PA/GoB

PM's x7 Flamer/ Melta Champ w/ PF/PP in a Rhino w/EA
PM's x7 Flamer/ Melta Champ w/ PF/PP in a Rhino w/EA

Heldrake x2

Oblits x3 MoN

I really on the DP and Drakes. Hide the Rhinos until needed or all 3 are on the board. Hide the DP in or behind terrain. He has shrouded to give a +2 to his cover. Hide Rhinos behind LoS blocking terrain. The 2 squads of PM are a pain for any opponent to get rid of if they can't see them. Oblits for stopping transports and horde armies(also Drakes).

When you get the DP in CC, challenge the CH with a smash attack(you will most likely win even after LoS)(BM might kill a few of the unit too). The enemy will most likely pass its moral. Then in your turn you will kill of whats left. Move in your turn and cause more havok.

Good luck.

I'd like to go with the nurgle prince/wings and black mace. Just waiting till I can drop the dollars on it. Doesn't seem like making one is viable.
