I'm going to be adding a flyer into my army, I've found the stats for the stormtalon online but not thw rules on how to play a flyer, how far it can move, turning, shooting etc.
Is DftS essential if I'm wanting to use a flyer?

The general (movement/shooting/etc) rules for flyers are in the 6th edition rulebook. DFTS just adds the rules for a few specific flyer units and some special campaign stuff that nobody ever uses. If you've found the correct Storm Talon rules (note that DFTS updates them and the original WD article is no longer valid) then you have absolutely no reason to buy that complete waste of paper.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

All of the rules that are not in the BRB involving fliers are for a special supplement you need to agree to use, since it heavily alters the game. Its not mandatory unless youre one of the few unfortunate older codexes that their flier info is only in that waste of paper they call a book.
Orks for instance. I have the white dwarf and know that the only changes from the last FAQ (that they removed) was the name for Fighta Ace changed and now specifically includes fliers (old version didnt say fliers, it said skimmers, since it was before fliers). Noone in a noncompetitive game would question it but if i brought a dakkajet to a tourny without DFTS in hand i would probably get DQ'd by some WAAC complaining more than the TO saying i need the book despite having the white dwarf.
Still refusing to buy it anyway. New dexes get fliers added in because theres no way to update them without releasing another DFTS book. Fliers are broken enough, they dont need more rules.

Thanks, the rules for the stormtalon I've got have the strafing run rule rather than the hovering one as well as skyhammer being the cheapest option.
Reading the rules now thanks, thats £20 saved and put aside for the new SMs!
I play SM.
