I've been taking stock of what bits I have and have found I have way more Space Wolves spares than I'll ever need now - but not enough key parts to make up full models.

What do most of you do? Keep loads of spare bits on the off chance they'll come in handy, or sell them off and claw back some cash for new models?

Eh, depends on how much you like to kitbash.

If youre one of those that enjoy painting (or god forbid, hate building and painting and just play the game) but not that big on conversions, i'd sell them. Spare bitz from a few handful of boxes could net you another box, and not like those bitz are gonna do anything for you.

I play orks though so i'd never do that lol. Even my Tau bitz and any other race i get my hands on (i have Gargoyle wings for some reason i intend to use to make a Demon Nob lol) i will never sell off because i convert so much lol.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

I always keep them, they can always come in handy.
I buy a lot from craigslist/ebay and these bits allow me to exchange the weapons to things I want them to have.

Sometimes those models have stuff missing and I can scratchbuild it.
Some time ago I got two Necron Barges but only one cannon to change them into an Annihilation Barge.
Luckily I had enough (Space Marine) bits and I could build my own cannon from combining the Baal-pred flamer, the fuel-tanks, a TL Assault Cannon and two Gauss Flayers.

Definitely keep them if you are at all interested in modelling, as you never know when you'll come in handy. Especially with SW parts, as if/when you get some LF, skyclaws or swiftclaws you'll need the parts to wolf them up. The SW kits are great for extra bits, so I'd recommend hanging onto them.

Keep them. The number of times that random part dug out of a pile of bitz has made a converted/kitbashed model look great...

Keep them and keep an eye on the bits sites and ebay for the bits you need to make up full marines.

Keep. I wish I had more cool lookin' bits around, but with my main army as Necrons, my bits are too damn limited :(

You never have enough bits!
