'lo to all

I have been collecting for a little while now and have so far made two pretty sexy armies, a predominately tzeentch warband and a BA army. Both armies are generally quite elite, and I think that they have both reached a decent size at around 2000 pts.

I was looking for something different, a horde army, and was looking for some tips on how I would go about building up such a force. The price I would like to stay around is two battle forces, so enough money to make a decent sized army.

What armies and how to make them would be appreciated.

Personal opinions on how units should be used are very much appreciated.

Easiest is Orks. they used to be the 5th edition starter box, so you can get a lot of 'Boyz for cheaper on ebay.

Going off of just the battleforce - Nids

16 Genestealers
32 Termagants
32 Hormagaunts
6 Warriors
6 Ripper Swarms

Using 2 Warriors as Primes and you have almost 900 points with no upgrades with 2 HQs, and 6 Troops.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

The nid battalion box is great for starting a hoard army. Just a word of warning however: ripper swarms are very hard to use effectively, and personally I don't think they are ever worth their points.
I woulds get 2 battalion boxes and make 2 squads of 30 terms, 2 squads of 30 horms, 1 squad of 9 warriors, a squad of 20 stealers, and then a prime. This would allow you the flexibility of switching out certain troop choices each game (more stealers, less horms, etc).
Then just season to taste with zoenthropes, hive guard, tyranofexes, carnifexes, trygons, tervigons, and tyrants. Personally, I would recommend tervigons for a a hoard army, as they will buff your troops with psychic powers and spawn more squads to flood the enemy with.

I'll throw in my support for Tyranids. The Tyranid Battalion was made for starting or adding to a horde army. If you don't like Hormagaunts, you can even throw the spare Devourers on them to give you Devilgaunts or Spinefists for Spinegaunts (not that this option isn't particularly competitive). If you don't want to play right away, I'd forgo making 2 Primes and just use your Warriors as Warriors.

On top of those 2 Battalions throw in a Tervigon and a Hive Tyrant, and you can make a pretty solid 1000pt list. Drop the Termagants to spawn with the Tervigon and use your Devilgaunts as the unit to turn it into a Troop choice. Throw wings on the Tyrant, throw the Fleshborer hives from the Tervigon on the Tyrant as a dual Devourer conversion, and it's on its way to being competitive.
