I have just started a skaven army with the Island of Blood starter. I am thinking of getting the Skaven Battalion to bolster my numbers and think i should be able to get about 1200 points from this. My question is what should i buy after? i like clan skyre and clan moulder, but i dont know whether an army based around these would be good. I am thinking that i should get a hell pit abomination and a doom wheel?

Buy another Island of Blood. xD Seriously most Skaven lists include Skaven-Slaves and that can quickly land in the range of 100+ modells, Another Island of Blood is most likely not wasted (Especially if you can share with somebody who wants the elves).

A friend of mine is giving me an Island of Blood after he finishes painting it and I ran into someone at my local GW who is willing to sell a Skaven half of IoB. Technically Skavenslaves don't HAVE to be Skaven, they can be other races. I'm planning to boost my Slave count w/a box or 2 of Gnoblars

Battalions aren't going to go to waste tho, they are certainly a good purchase.

Ebay is your best friend for Skaven, go check it out and see whats a good deal. Other than that I would recommend a cannon, Doomwheel or HPA, our rare's are off the chain.

This. Especially if you need to bolster units like Clan Rats or Skavenslaves. Also for Rat Ogres or Giant Rats, since the GW model set is such garbage in terms of cost (you mentioned liking Moulder).
