I've collected quite a few chaos miniatures without any plan for their looks and am now thinking of running them in a organized list. Please help me make sense of my thought as I am not that much of a tactical genius...

Khorn Lord with Juggernaut, Axe of Blind Fury and Sigil of Corruption 135
+ 3 Chaos Spawn as Bodyguards 90

Fabius Bile 165

A mob of Berserkers and one of Enhanced Chaos Mariens as Troops

3 Obliterators 210

Forgefiend with Hades Autocannons and a Ectplasma Cannon 200

Sounds good to me so far. I'd up the number of spawn. Try and get the lord a meltabomb.
Make sure the unit of marines is big (20 for me) to get the most out of fabius. Most marks work well in this unit, I favour slaanesh for feel no pain, but khorne is fine. I would put fabius in another big units of marines or cultists to give them fearless and use them as a scoring unit. Keep fabius away from combat.
The bezerker mob is tricky to get right, as they are expensive and die easy. either run 20 and go for it, or 10 in a land raider perhaps? (never a rhino) Also the juggernought lord goes alright in this unit, as he can use his move to extend your charge range (if you're brave enough to take the overwatch shots)
the oblitorators are great, but the mark of nurgle makes them better, and in a big unit veterans of the long war is worth it
...Obviously helldrakes with baleflamers are good as well...
Maybe some havoks/aegis line for air defence

what size army are you trying to make?

I've played against a few khorne lists i dont play them myselves but, some of the most devistating units ive seen people bring is khorne bikers (not sure what exactly he did to them but they were asicly berserkers on bikes and they were mean), khorne deamon prince with wings armour mark of khorne and the mace artifact (every model in combat that doesnt take a non saved wound takes a wound or something like that). if you are looking for a bigger game, kharne (im sure i mispeled his name sorry lol) the betrayer can pack a mean punch, ive never seen anyone use spawn but heard from alot of people that they are terrible.

the obliterators usually do pretty good in general

never seen someone take a forgefiend or maulerfiend but im told that a few (3-4) maulerfiends in apoc matches can tear up titans in melee

something a fried of mine told me when i started playing, pick the army you think looks the coolest and the most fn to play

then pick the units the look the most fun and sound the most
fun
dont wory bout being comptative less your entering tournments, you will get better with time and if you spend all your time trying to make the unbeatable list but don't have fun doing it you ruin the game for yourself..
we recently got a new csm player who likes a few big demons and bikers so he made a sorc on a bike, 3-4 bike champions 20 csm's (with 1-2 champions) and a demon prince, just because it looks cool and his play style works fairly well. (run up and hit stuff while shooting til you get there)

but again i don't actually play CSM just what i have seen work in the past. hope this helps

1500-1750. I don't plan on attending any tournament, only gamesbetween friends. thank you, both of your answers have given me hope in this endeavor I'll give the codex another read and see whatelse looks good.

I would say it is a nice start. I would add the following:

1 more box of Spawn, so you can run a unit of 5.

1 Heldrake. I magnetized mine to switch between Baleflamer and Hades Autocannon. It requires some patience, but can be done.

If you have not built the Forgefiend yet, magnetize it so you can easily run all the variants. If you do this correctly, you can also turn it into a Maulerfiend.

So this is what I have come up with. It's no longer Khorne-exclusive, but looks fun.

Khorn Lord w/ Juggernaut, Black Mace, Sigil of Corruption, Gift of Mutation, Meltabomb 195
+ 5 Chaos Spawn as Bodyguards 150

// is it just me or does the Axe of Blind Fury look a lot les scary compared to the Black Mace?

Fabius Bile 165
+ 10 Enhanced Chaos Marine of Slaanesh w/ Icon of Excess, CCW and 2 flamer 210
Aspiring Champion Loadout? Gift of Mutation 10

10 Berserker of Khorne w/ Chainaxes and Icon of Fury 230
Aspiring Champion Loadout? Gift of Mutation 10

3 Obliterators of Tzeench 234

Forgedemon w/ Hades Cannons and a Ectoplasmatic Cannon 200

total: 1404

It would be appropriate to find something nurgly to cover all bases (I've heard good things about bikers?). An alternative would be to take Kharn over Fabius and double on the berserkers, but I think this solution is much more fun to model and play... maybe.

The black mace = Ap4 = not scary.

For this list you've decided to double down on fabius, but I'd have gone the other way myself. Fabius is an awful HQ (compare to, say, Huron, who is much better at the same price, or just another khorne lord, etc.), and the only reason you put up with him is if you want to take "berzerkers" as troops without having to bother with a khorne lord. But you already HAVE a khorne lord, which means that fabuis is really pointless. You might as well just take more berzerkers.

The other thing I don't get is the forgefiend. Everything else is going to be charging forward, while you have this one thing with a couple of autocannons and a defensive plasma cannon plinking away hopelessly in your backfield. You'd be better served by something else that moves forward quickly along with the rest of your army, like some deepstriking terminators, or some more obliterators, or some bikes, or something.

In fact, you could so some mean bike things with two bike khorne lords, two squads of bikes, two squads of berzerkers, and a squad of obliterators.

I can see the reasoning behind Bile, I'm not that into this game to know how good he is, but i thought in an already meele-heavy army it would be good to have something shooty like the fiend of obliterators...
