OK so, am actualy trying to be competative here with this army, something I wasn't good with my marines... Now am puting up a list out of things I have and a few things I will have to buy.

So what are your thoughts and have you tried someting similar?

HQ

1) Vulkan He'Stan

2) Chaplain with Jumpack

TROOPS

1) Tactical Squad 10x
-Sargent with Power weapon and Combi-flamer
-Flamer
-Multi-Melta

Drop pod

2) Tactical Squad 10x
-Sargent with Combi-flamer
-Flamer
-Multi-Melta

Drop pod

3) Tactical Squad 10x
-Sargent with Combi-melta
-Melta
-Multi-Melta

Drop pod

ELITES

1) Ironclad Dreadnought
-Seismic hammer/Heavy flamer
-Close combat arm/Heavy flamer

Drop pod

2) Sternguard Veterans 10x
-5x Combi-melta
-3x Combi-flamer
-2x Heavy flamer

Drop pod

FAST ATTACK

1) Assault marines 10x
-Sargent with Power fist and Storm shield
-2x Flamers

Now here is the tactic I was thinking with this list

Droping Sternguard, Dreadnought and one tactical squad (one with power weapon) and Vulkan added to them all to one side of the board. They can deal with pretty much anything accept close combat. Than I have two more tactical squads waiting in reserve to drop anywhere i need them at that time, they can bust a tank or flame a squad of someting. And those Multi-meltas can reroll their snapshot when they arrive !

Ironclad can help those guys that dropped first turn a bit in close combat, but the main reason why i took the assault marines is to come (foot slogging if you can say that for the jump packs) and help them as fast as possible, with the chaplain inside they also deliver a punch. Their sargent is pimped in a manner that he is not afraid to take a challange from any other char in close combat..

Now I tried this list angaint orkz and it didnt do good, i was lacking some firepower to take down heavy infantry. He had ghazgull (or how do you spell it) with nobz in power armour and i couldnt do apsolutely anything to them. Assaulters did their job well and flew across the board to deliver help where it was needed but they were still torn to shreds so easily...

So my main dilema is should i kick out of the list chaplain and his jumpers and take another unit of 10 sternguard (wich i do not own) and stick all combi plasmas with 2x plasma guns to them? That way I have an answer to heavy inf but absolutely no close combat capabilities...

For the emperor!

The Twilight Zone

Combi meltas should handle Meganobs and other teriminators in a pinch. Other than that, sheer force of wounds from fire and dakka can do the job. With a drop pod list, you should be able to avoid them or at least feed them a unit.

Not sold on the chapalin and assault marines idea just cause they have to start on the board while the rest of the army is in pods. If you don't get first turn you could easily be tabled. More sternguard with combi meltas would be better.

Since your going vulkan, don't take plasma. Melta works good enough and with the re rolls its going to sting a bit more. Plus, it can instagib T4. Don't forget, sternguard can use +2 poison rounds, ignoring cover and Ap3 bullets when need be! I would drop the heavy flamers from the sternguard, the re rolling to wound is great, but special ammo is good enough as is and you should not have any problem with this much fire in your list already.

Consider ironclad assault launchers for the dread. You have 2 templates, might as well add in a small blast to your shooting for extra crowd control. The def grenades negate fists and other high S attacks that can hurt you if charged(and they make it through the fire!) plus the stealth gives you protection from close ranged melta and other things.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

I would drop the assault squad and chaplain and replace them with 3 Stormtalons. Plus lose the PW on the Sargent and replace the flamers in your tact squads with meltas. But as the new codex is out next month. I would just play with what you have and wait before you buy anything.

I dont own stormtalons and actually wans't planing on investing in them :/ altho it would be a nice addon. The ironclad launchers is the thing i haven't thought about, the defensive grenades are rather good, but i think that doesent give me a small blast for the frag grenade... its quite unclear if you can throw that grenade in addition to fireing your weapons...

Only thing is i cant drop the fist from the sargent hehe... he is a bit converted model and i really love him the way he is with his custom made storm shield and fist. People tend to dislike fists in 6th, but think about it: he can easily chalange a ind char upon assault, 3 attacks with rerolls to hit - yes please.

I like your respones but I am still not convinced on removing the assault squad :/
