I hav recently began reading (minor spoilers?) "Prince of Crows" and must say I am impressed with Sevatar, both with his badassery ( The man even invented the catch phrase "death to the false emperor") but more importantly, his leadership of the Atramentar and the VIII Legion when Curze is unable to.

Now, his fate seems to be unclear (Am thinking of starting a Atramentar/Jago warband), and my friend who is a fluff nerd tells me that in the further continuity (aka Soul Hunter books etc..) that they believe Sevatar may be alive.

I just wanted to get your guys opinions on the likelihood of such. I'd also like to ask who else other than the one and only Sevatar could possibly ever reunite/really rally the remnants of the VIII Legion, and do you believe as I do, that Sevatar is the last hope for the VIII Legion? I mean, he stepped up and took command when he was needed to, and the Atramentar respect him and him only, which says a lot.

I am pretty sure that they state that

Spoiler:
he is dead

in the Night Lords trilogy. But this doesn't mean it to be true. Just because it is believed to be a case, doesn't mean that it is the actual case, as with so many things in 40k.

Spoiler:

It's supposed to be a point of minor debate with them, I believe - I think Talos believes he is definitely dead, but others disagree and believe he went off to do his own thing, or something. I always took it as they were just unwilling to believe Sevatar, the guy who led them in some of their darker times and who was a bit of a hero to the legion, was actually dead.

Spoiler:
Sevatar went missing and presumed, but not confirmed to be dead. The legion fell apart and became a pathetic shell of itself without any leadership, splitting into various warbands. Then the Night Lords novel series happened and ended on a positive note, with a new prophet who could possibly re-unite the Legion once again and the Legion getting videotapes of the last words of their gene-father, Konrad Curze. It's kinda implied by the 13th Black Crusade that they got their act together again, although we've basically hit the wall that GW refuses to advance past at this point so any details from there on are nonexistent.

Spoiler:
Mercutian believed he was still alive for some reason, but Talos, Malcharion, the rest of the Night Haunter's inner circle, and Kurze himself, all believed him killed at some point during the Heresy, probably the Siege of the Emperor's Palace since the fracturing of the Atramentar after Sahaal's appointment as their captain seems to be mentioned as a fairly recent event during Talos's flashback.

Personally, I hated Sevatar. I was really disappointed, because I love the Night Lords. He alone ruined Prince of Crows for me (Don't get me started on his voice in the audio book).

I kind of hope he won't make a return in the 41st, but we'll see.

Sevatar cannot reunite the Legion, his claim is dismissed by the other Captains in the Night Lords trilogy.

The only one who can do it is the new Talos, who the Ulthwe foresaw as uniting the Legion.

Spoiler:
If i'm not mistaken, the last we see of Sevatar in the fluff is he's in the belly of a Dark Angels war ship, festering in the brig or some cell with a few of his brothers, stripped of his armor and weapons, something about preparing to use his acid spit to chew through the bars.
so we assume the last we see of him during the heresy is that he's either captured or has escaped and...

Sevatar never tried to reunite the Legion, he was dead long before M'Shen killed Kurze.
