Evening all, I'm in the process of finalising my 1500 point eldar list and have a few thoughts I want to run by you. I've tried to make it competitive while also being fun to paint and play with. Anyway here are my questions:

1) Is the mantle of the laughing god worth the 40 points you pay for it? I plan on having my seer running around casting powers and it should massively increase the survivability of the bikes, but do you think the points might be better spent elsewhere (eg on holo fields for the fire prisms)?
2) Do you agree with my weapon choice for the walkers? I think bright lances are a good fit as the list is a bit weak on anti-tank otherwise but i'm in the process of magnetising my walkers so am happy to try other configurations.
3) Are there any upgrades I've taken that you think I could do without? I'd love to get my seer a singing spear so he has a chance of killing tanks but I'm not sure what to cut so some fresh eyes would be appreciated!

Thanks all and here's the list:

HQ

Farseer (jetbike, mantle of the laughing god) - 155 points

Troops

6 GJBs (2 shuriken cannons) - 122 points

10 guardian defenders (wave serpent with t/l scatter lasers and holo fields) - 225 points

10 guardian defenders (wave serpent with t/l scatter lasers and holo fields) - 225 points

Fast attack

Crimson hunter (exarch) - 180 points

7 warp spiders - 133 points

Heavy support

3 war walkers (2 bright lances each) - 210 points

Fire prism - 125 points

Fire prism - 125 points

Total - 1500 points

Choosing between the mantle and holo fields is a tough call. The prisms could use the protection, but the seer could too. Remember that the seer can join the bikes for some defense, but if he takes the mantle then he is flying solo, so the bikes can't get the benefit and the seer is off alone and vulnerable.

You could always drop 2 spiders for the fields and a singing spear on the seer.

It comes down to what you want and think is best. Neither answer is wrong, and your list should do fine either way.

Since you jet bike squad is large enough, drop the mantle and throw him in there.

Are the Guardians ever going to come out of the prisms and footslog, if the answer is no, which is probably should be, run 5 dire avengers, cheaper, shoot farther, same number of attacks if charged.

Use the Points for holo fields and More Warp spiders.

Ah, I thought he could stick with the bikes if he has the mantle - I must have misread losing the independent character special rule as meaning he becomes a character and therefore has to stick with one squad the whole game, not that he has to stay on his own. Thanks, I would have been playing that very wrong otherwise! I'll have a good play test of both variations and see what works best!

If you're looking to take mantle, I've found it's a good bet to give your Mantle carrier 2 distinct jobs and focus on those jobs for the game. For example: Farseer with Mantle I give her Spirit Stone, bike, and singing spear. She darts around buffing the army, and throws the odd BS5 STR9 shot at the rear or side of a vehicle. Autarch though gets more aggressive with bike, fusion gun, and laser lance. His job is to wreck the crap out of MEQ infantry and melt some tanks if he gets near whilst providing reserves manipulation.
