Subject: Playing BFG without blast markers?

So I am organizing some BFG games as part of an RPG campaign. We played one demo game just to get a feel for it, and used scraps of paper for blast markers (we have mostly scratch built models and home made markers) and I'm wondering how much it would change the play if you just ignored blast markers. Obviously you'd have to keep track of shield damage, but other than that it seems like they mostly slow down the game and clutter up the board. What do others think? Most of the effects are minor, or are they important in some way I don't grasp? Thanks!

the blast markers are integral to the game.
Ordnance has to manuever around blast markers to avoid the effects of flying through them.
My friends and I use those little fluffy yellow puff balls that aare for fabric..I spritzed them with red spray paint and they make great blast markers. We use the BIG ones for an easy counts as 5 marker.

As FarseerAndyMan said, Blast Markers are very important to the game.
You shouldn't take them away as they have a big effect.
You could take away markers that are in a place where you aren't going to be anymore. We always remove Torpedos that are shooting off into nowhere although they are technically still there.
But as long as a marker is still going to have an effect it needs to remain. They can provide cover and block ordinance from reaching your ships.

Plus in the end phase you take d6 markers from the board. So in a small demo game it will hardly clutter.

Yup, I've also found that unless you are playing a close quarters fight you often don't have very many at all.
Plus they look very cool.

I agree. They are not only integral, they are supposed to be clutter, in a way.
