I was just thinking that adding a HGC Stalker to a list running heavy destroyers seems like a good idea, 4 Twinlinked HGCs can't be that bad, right?

I run this from time to time and if you are thinking about TL your Heavy Destroyers, you're using the stalker wrong.

TL Heavy Destroyers mean you can reroll 2's. That's the only advantage a stalker has to offer to arguably our most accurate unit already. PE and BS4 means we only miss on 2's (or a 1 or 2 on the PE Re-roll) and with S9, more than likely we're wounding on a 2+ (which we reroll 1's for PE there as well).

Taking a stalker just to TL Heavy Destroyers is a waste of points from my experiences. Having it as another HGC is ok but really I only run it with a HGC if I need the range of it instead of the other options. Stalkers, for me anyways, work best when I use it to augment and support my warriors and immortals. Hitting a unit with the stalker in order for my RF Warriors to obliterate them is just mean. Do it to a tank and give them tank hunter with Zahndrek and glancing becomes a viable option.

Overall though - don't take a stalker to TL heavy destroyers. The stalker with HGC is only 15pts LESS than a unit of 3 Heavy Destroyers and really is limited in how much it can help our already most precise unit.

EDIT - The ONLY time I would argue TL'ing heavy destroyers would be useful is if you land the stalker's 1, single shot against a flyer. However, that's a 1:6 chance of hitting the flyer with the stalker which doesn't have skyfire so the odds are against you and you're taking a powerful, single shot and firing it against the odds instead of towards a possible better target on the ground where it as a 2:3 chance of hitting.

Now a HGC Stalker and 4 to 8 Destruc-teks, on the other hand, go together quite nicely!
Doomsday Arks are also quite fond of them.
As are Gauss Immortals.
Everyone else doesn't get as much out of the twin linking effect, especially Destroyers of any kind.
