Do drop pod SW lists require wolf guard to be effective? I don't think so.

Rune Priest (100) (Divination)
Rune Priest + Chooser (110) (Living Lightning, Tempest's Wrath)

Lone Wolf + Terminator Armor, Combi-melta, Wolf Claw (55)

10 GH + 2xMeltas, MotW, Wolf Standard, Drop Pod (210)
10 GH + 2xMeltas, MotW, Wolf Standard, Drop Pod (210)
10 GH + 2xMeltas, MotW, Wolf Standard, Drop Pod (210)
10 GH + 2x Plasmaguns, Wolf Standard, Drop Pod (205)
10 GH + 2x Plasmaguns, Wolf Standard, Drop Pod (205)

Predator + Autocannon & HB sponsons (85)
6 LF + 5 Missile Launchers, Razorback (180)
6 LF + 5 Missile Launchers, Razorback (180)
Aegis Defense Line + Quad Gun (100)

Total = 1850

Long fangs and Rune Priests deploy with ADL.
Rune Priest with the chooser will man the quad gun.
The Predator and Razor backs deploy to the mid-field and use their HB's for horde control.
Lone Wolf deploys behind one of the vehicles for cover turn 1, then moves forward as fast as he can.
Melta hunters alpha strike when they come in - priority targets are AV13-14 and big beasties.
Plasma hunters can survey the situation on turn 2 and either support the Melta hunters or deploy to an objective or something else as appropriate.

Why the razorbacks? As a transport they are somewhat usefull but for their firepower alone they are kind of overcosted, aren't they?

It's true. The razorbacks and the lone wolf I threw in at the last minute to use up points. However, I figured that their Heavy Bolters could be useful against horde lists or lists with 4+ armor saves AND they could be used as a moving shield for the lone wolf. Plus, for 40 points each, they're cheaper than a land speeder but have better armor and a twin linked HB. I also probably would not care if they blew up, so they work nice as a distraction. I probably would never transport anything in them.

No jotww? Seems odd, thought it was a pretty good power if your not changing. I mean it can kill MCd with low initiative, and mutliwound targets like paladins, tau suits, etc

I always press dat, if you know what I mean.

Jaws is over-rated. I don't want my Rune Priest up in the front because they suck in close combat. And you need to get close to use jaws. Plus, this power has been around long enough that people know how to get around it. For example, Jump Infantry and Flying monstrous creatures are immune. Last but not least, I can't stand hearing people complain that Jaws is over powered - because it is and I try not to play cheesy.

No...My rune priests' jobs are to give re-rolls to hit for my heavy weapons (the divination dude). And the the other one mans the Quad Gun at BS5, or uses Living Lightning to lambast enemies with D6 S7 AP - shots from all the way across the board. If the enemy has lots of skimmers (eldar, Necrons), jet bikes (Eldar) or jump infantry (blood angels, necron wraiths), you can use the Tempest's wrath to keep them away.

I guess you don't play that much tau or nids, jaws still does awesome stuff for me.

I play against Tau all the time and have only lost twice. I don't play nids though you're right.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
But here's another thing TableTopJosh...You don't have to decide what powers to take until you set up the board. That means that you get to see what your opponent's army is before you decide what powers to take.

Playing against 'Nids? Does he have a Trygon? Ok..then maybe you can consider taking JotWW.

Jaws is both over rated and over powered? Really?
In a meta heavy with Tau and Necrons, I find it an invaluable tool.

Not taking JotWW because people call it cheesy and then taking 2 squads of misslefangs? Really?

Contradictory much?

I generally don't take JotWW against Tau because I don't need it in my meta. I usually roll in with a just a wolf priest. Or if I do take Rune Priest, he hangs back with the Long Fangs. I don't need jaws to kill fire warriors or kroot. I can't use jaws against the jump infantry battlesuit thingies or vehicles. What does that leave as a target that I NEED jaws for? Nothing really. I suppose a Riptide, but no one in my meta has bought one yet.

EDIT : This is what I mean by "Jaws is over-rated."

Well I have heard that Long Fangs are 'cheesy', but if you're talking about Necrons ... I say fight cheese with cheese. I mean....Necrons are the cheesiest thing out there. Necron air force with 3 units of wraiths and CSM allies for the obligatory helldrake. Compared to that, everything in the SW codex is tame.

In any case, no one is going to have problems with the rules for missile launchers. While JotWW brings up sooooo many rules issues that there are pages and pages of YMDC threads devoted to it. That is what I meant by, "Jaws is cheesy."

So maybe 'cheese' isn't what I meant. Perhaps I should have said "jaws is not simple" or "jaws is broken". Missile launchers are simple. JotWW - as a unique power with unique rules of it's own - can cause problems.

AND .... Like I said, you don't have to choose your powers until just before the game starts. I can still take jaws in this list if I feel like I need it.

Swap the razorbacks to drop pods and you can get another pod of grey hunters on the field turn 1

A decent idea, but then I'd have to buy two more drop pods. And build them - (*ugh* they're a pain in the a$$ to build.)
