My DIY Chapter, the Broken Arrows. Sort of a Native American/Tribal aesthetic, to be brief about it. Thre's a whole bunch of background fluff that I've written up, but that's over on the BnC. Just pics for here

Just about everything I did with these guys was new territory for me. I bought an airbrush, I learned to do oil wash, I learned to weather, and even did some basic OSL.

Enjoy, and C&C most appreciated

Top notch drop pod bud! Very impressive! Wasn't what I was expecting from the description, was think more browns maybe some warpaint, but I like it! I use the lizardmen feathers on my marines to, I ran out and started sculpting them on it green stuff you should give it a go it's easy and looks great! Loving the heat tempering effect on the assault cannon, it's a very subtle effect but worth it I love doing it on my plasma cannons. OSL on the speeder is well exicuted imo but the plasma osl doesn't do it for me. I think as a whole you've done a great job, lots of little conversion, a must imo, but I feel the marines could do with a few more contrasting details as they are a little muddy, maybe some striking war paint or helmets or even just trim colour. Keep up the good work!

They are marines to be proud of, I'm in love with drop pods and yours is really well done, nicely weather and battle weary. The detail and effort you've put in really show.

Love the dark and grungy paint scheme! Congrats.

Thank you both very much.

Zog- Yeah, I chickened out on the plasma gun. I was painting just the gun, and as my very first attempt at OSL it was rather dicey. After the trial and error involved I was too afraid to actually paint the marine, so you end up with an oddly glowy weapon that can only light up itself One day I will pop the gun out and do it proper, but I haven't got the confidence yet. As for the facial warpaint, on account of the color I kept it to the minimal darts and arrows, or else I was afraid it would just go Braveheart on me

Also, I tried sculpting feathers at first. The results were pretty silly. One of the easier things you could ever have to sculpt, but I just don't have a knack for it I guess. One day, one day....

I really like these guys. I'm rather impressed with the freehand. It's easy to get overambitious and mess up. Your choice, I feel, is spot on: It's striking and unique, but low key enough not to be overwhelming.

If you don't mind, I'm taking notes for the time I get to paint my Eldar.

Very original! I love it! I would really like to hear their fluff haha.

Please do some termies next!

I would sign this contract but I already ate the potato

@Idle Hands- Thanks kindly. When doing the freehand, my rule of thumb was that from any given angle, some blue should be visible (prior to attaching the shoulders, backpack, and head). Once that criteria was met, I would stop. What sort of notes do you mean, per se? If you just mean general inspiration, I'm flattered If you have specific questions I'll answer those as best i can, too.

I'm looking at another Tac squad and probably Sternguard once the new kits are released in a few weeks. I never cared much for termies

I really wanna make some custom scouts. I'll absolutely have to model one using a bow, if I can figure out how.

As for the fluff, it's over on the BolterandChainsword-

The WIP Blog has little blips of fluff in front of finished models http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/274850-broken-arrows-82013-just-drop-me-off-here/

And this is an in depth background for the Chapter, it's history, quirks, etc. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/270956-ia-broken-arrows/

Loving the original chapters. Nice work. The skin tone is well done, and the armor colors unique.

Really like the original chapter you made here. The way you merge the parts from different sets and the design works really well together.

The OSL is really cool too, in particular with the libbie!

Love the blue arrow freehanding. Pushes it over the edge from good to great.

Well done.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!
