Howdy, I am new to Eldar (normally a BA player). I am attempting a 1500pt all comers list. How does this look:

Illic + 5 pathfinders
10 Dire Avengers in a WS (BL and Holo)
5 Wraithguard + Farseer in a WS (BL and Holo)
10 Warpspiders
9 Swooping Hawks
Wraithknight (2x heavy wraithcannon)

1499pts

What do you think?

Well, its a starting point.
Frankly, I wouldn't take Illic. Small DA units in Serpents are fine. Two large FA units is a bit much at the 1500 pt level.

Can you suggest an alternative?

Agreed no illic. He will hit every time, but only wound half. I would make dire avenger squad into 5 man, then scatter laser instead of BL the wave serpents. The wraithknight and wraithaurd should take out armour enough. And the amount of s6-7 shots they make is to good to pass up.

pathfinders + illic is a waste of points, so are hawks

id change them into another wave serpent.

the 10 da in the serpent are ok but 5 is more common.

jetbikes are kings of eldar

trade hawks for more warp spiders.

I'm thinking of starting up my Eldar again after about 15 years of not playing or collecting. I have the new codex and think Hawks are actually really good, and seem to pack a surprise anti-vehicle punch with haywire grenades. Defo think Wraithknight could have suncannon instead and you could have more S6 weaponry in there like scatter lasers and starcannons. Possibly fewer hawks, although I think a large unit of Avengers is good to maximise that bladestorm threat. I'm a novice again though so take this with a pinch of salt.

A squad of 6 Hawks with the Exarch. 18 24" S3 AP5 shots(statistically, that's as good as a stormbolter who has more S but less shots), a large blast plate with AP4 and ignore cover special rule, and 6 Haywire grenades on a jump infantry squad with Exarch's BS of 5.

That's 121 points. That squad consistently kills 3x their points in vehicles and infantry. They're a disruption unit that doesn't have as much obvious power as Warp Spiders, but they're well worth it. Find a nice LOS blocking terrain, DS next to it, shoot something, then battle-focus completely out of LOS. Next turn, do the same or if you need the large blast lift them up again and wait for them to arrive wherever they're wanted the turn after that. Interesting and definitely a good unit.

You can take 8 Warp Spiders to free up points. My experience with them has been that whatever 10 Spiders shoot at, they most usually kill outright, especially vehicles. Which means a lot of wasted shots, which means a lot of wasted points. So two small squads of 5 or 1 squad of 8 might work better.

Trade the hawks for warp spiders, lose the wraith knight and maybe throw in some dark reapers and put SL on your wave serpents.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also squads of 10 guardians with a SL are pretty good, weapons that have a chance for Bladestorm that get a re-roll to hit can be pretty nasty, I like to use it when I am shooting a MC. Had a squad of guardians eat Mephiston alive like that a couple weeks ago.

This is my list now:

Farseer - bike - mantle
10x DA in WS (SL and holo)
10x Guardians in WS (SL Holo)
5x WG with Spiritseer in WS (SL and holo)
8x Warpspiders
6x Swooping Hawks
Wraithknight (stock)

I want to keep the WK and Hawks to try them out and harry my opponents. What do you think?

With that second list the only change I can suggest is that for Bladestorm purposes, 10 Guardians will do the same thing as 10 DA, albeit at a shorter range, but for less points. And you can add in a Bright Lance or Starcannon platform to both Guardian squads for some good AP2 shooting. Otherwise, looks like every other Eldar list out there! (Not a bad thing

Give the farseer on bike the spirit stone remnant because chances are you're going to get a 2 warp charge psychic power and casting that along with your double guide/prescience will be spectacular

If you haven't bought your WSs yet, I'd suggest taking the DA squad out of it and giving them a shimmershield/power maul exarch.

A small squad of 3 bikes in reserve would be nice too.
