Ok so I bought the sm commander in a whim after painting the DA 5 marine paint set.

I am planning on going with the DA and was wondering if I got these basic rules right:

DA call their captains or commanders chaptermasters, they can ne equiped with:

WARGEAR: Power armour (pg 65) , bolt pistol, chainsword, frag grenades, krak grenades, iron halo (pg 63 ). (DA Codex).

Now if I get this right I can take the sm commander and use a combination of the above. Leaving out the plasmapistol and thunderclaw for instance ?

Or was I wrong in the first place in buying the commander and should I have gone with a chapter specific model?

Using the captain kit for a company master is fine, and you are not limited to that wargear, he can use anything that comes with the kit, so long as you pay the points for it. See the armoury in the codex for points costs.

To clarify, the wargear in the section you listed is the default setup for the company master, giving him a basic shooting and melee weapons, and armour. You can then get upgrades to both shooting and melee weapons as well as armour that are listed in the 'armoury' section of the codex. I don;t have my copy hand so can't give a page reference, but it shouldn't be hard to find. To do this, you pay the base points for the company commander, and then add the cost of any upgrades you buy. The effects and rules of the upgrades will either be found in the codex or the rulebook, depending on what they are. Hope that helps.

That clears it up, the gear mentioned is what you get for the base point value of said unit. The depending on your chapter you can upgrade depending on the cost and availibility stated in the armory of the appropriate codex.

Got it! Thanks again.
