Screaming Shining Spear

Before we start, I'll say this. I really don't care how good Serpent spam is. It's a point and click army and I refuse to play them. That said, it'd be silly not to use a very useful tool. So, what I'm trying to find out here is whether or not I can switch something out, mostly in troop department and still stay in the theme of the original list.

The list as follows:

Farseer: EJB, Singing Spear, Spirit Stones - 135

9 Windrider Jetbikes: 3 Shuriken cannons - 183
+ Warlock with Singing Spear - 55

5 Dire Avengers - 65
+ Wave Serpent: Scatterlasers, Holofields - 135

5 Dire Avengers - 65
+ Wave Serpent: Scatterlasers, Holofields - 135

8 Warp Spiders - 152

6 Swooping Hawks: Exarch with Sunrifle - 121

3 War walkers: 2x Scatterlasers - 210

Wraithknight - 240

Total: 1496

The idea is simple. The bikestar is here to provide pressure forward into the enemy, pelting them with shuriken fire and buffing the army as a whole. The Wraithknight moves forward with it and Warp Spiders to establish mid field dominance. Serpents shoot at distant targets and move behind the rest of the army.

This won't be a tournament list, ever, because we don't play tournaments at 1500 points here(1750+) and at larger points I will definitely more toward the footdar list, but for now, my problem with that approach is my lack of long range fire support. Few games I played with my Avengers out in the open ended badly for them(still pulled out a few wins and a draw, have yet to lose with the new Eldar) because my opponent had nothing to hide from in my back field. So I need something like the Serpents to make them think twice about focusing down my jetbikes and letting Serpents, Wraithknight and War walkers, not to mention Warp Spiders, roam freely around the map.

Swooping Hawks are here to be a disruption unit, blinding key targets and assaulting vehicle parking lots with their haywires. In games I've played them, they've reliably been able to kill 3x their points in vehicles and if there aren't any vehicles, there's infantry, their prefered target, so either way, they've something to do.

C&C more than welcome!

Executing Exarch

The Twilight Zone

It looks really good. People like to talk trash about hawks, but mine have always performed well in 6th. I run them exactly like you do, although sometimes I drop the exarch and just use em for blasts and lasers. Used correctly, they are very good.

The only change I would make is to drop the spirit stone of thatoneguy from your seer to give your serpent chin cannons. Makes em extra dangerous at close range, and the spirit stone is somewhat meh(only a few powers can even use it, only 3-4 powers you would even want to use that cost 2 charges)

Alternatively, you could grab another spider, or exarch a la carte,

I Agree with Dr. Serling, great list. With all the Tau that will be running around out there, they won't appreciate the large blast AP4 ignores cover grenade pack from those Hawks. Cheers!

Glad you like it!

I did ponder and ponder what to spend those 20 points on. Chincans or Spirit stones + Spear. Why I chose the SS is mostly because of Fortune that I will want every game. That said, is it worth 15 points for 1/6 chance to get the power I want? That's where I'm on the fence.

Nothing to really add here other than that I agree with everyone else. The list is solid at the 1500pts level and should really perform quite well.

What are your targets for Farseer guide/prescience support? War Walkers and Warp Spiders? If so, you'll probably get away with running 7 Warp Spiders.

Just a tip:

Double scatter lasers are better than double starcannons against 5+ or worse.
Double starcannons are better than double scatter lasers against 3+ or better.
They are exactly the same against 4+.

change the jetbikes to warlock death star and you have my undefeated 2k list, also change the hawks. (im not telling you to thats just what my list is) its very fun, hard hitting, fast and once you get someone on the run the list is relentless.

Warp spiders are just straight up MEAN!! their movement is over the top awesome and super strong fire power makes them deadly to anything on the board besides armour 14.

Wait, but against armour 13 you can't get penetrating hits right? Or is monofilament basically rending?

You can't, sadly. But they have enough shots that you'll get some 6's in and glance them possibly to death.

IcyFireKNight - my targets will wary. Usually it'll be War walkers + Spiders. But if I really need something heavy killed, I'll guide my WK and if I need first turn alpha strike in hammer&anvil deployment, I'll guide the Serpent Shields, given their extreme range, as opposed to the Scatterlasers.

I can drop a Spider, but don't have anything really smart to spend the surplus points on. I'll need to play test it more and see what upgrades are more useful. For instance, how many times I'll need that Spirit stone and how many times I'll shoot with shuricans on the Serpents.

Thanks for your comments!
