Looks solid on the whole, a nice big blob to counter the lack of numbers, and the aggressive DP wolves. However, in the squad of 10, I would take 2x meltas, gives you a dedicated AT unit to drop in the backfield and take out a tank early on.

Thanks man, with the few upgrades like a vox caster I had points left so a second melta will work

Just FYI - Ulrik (and any wolf priest for that matter) only make SPACE WOLVES fearless. This is in the Space Wolves FAQ. He won't confer the "Fearless" special rule to imperial guard units, but only the "And they shall know no fear" special rule. But any space wolf independent character would confer ATSKNF to an imperial guard blob that he joins, so why pay extra for Ulrik the Slayer? A stock wolf priest, or one of your Rune priests, will do the same thing.

Everything else looks solid. My personal taste would be to have more grey hunters though.

Any chance you could show me where in the FAQ it says that? I can't find it is all

Actually, I am mistaken. BOTH Ulrik the Slayer AND a stock Wolf Priest have the special rule "Fearless." Then in the BRB, under the USR "Fearless" I believe it says if at least one model in the unit has the rule then the whole unit does.

But now my main question stands...Why take Ulrik for 180 points when you can take a stock wolf priest for 100 and accomplish the same thing?

In any case, my confusion came from this; In the Space Wolves FAQ,

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2940050a_Space_Wolves_v1.2_JANUARY13.pdf

Half way down page 2 on the right, it says

PAGE 50 - Ulrik the Slayer, Wolf Helm of Russ.
Change the second sentence to read, "Any friendly unit chosen from Codex: Space Wolves that can trace a line of sight to Ulrik may re-roll any failed morale tests they are required to make."

And there are similar statements about Ulrik's "The Slayer's Oath" and "Mentor" special rules as well as a Wolf Priest's "Oath of War."

Ah grand so I just thought I'd overlooked it, I included ulrik because I like his fluff and model more then anything else, if I swap him for a wolf priest what would you recommend for the 110 points I now have to spare? I was at 1820 before this

- You could *almost* get another Vendetta for that.
- Another unit of Grey Hunters would be nice, but I think you're short points.
- What is the guard blob doing? Could it use some Heavy weapons?
- A lone wolf or two could be used against big beasties.
- Maybe this one is out there, but what about 15 Fenrisian wolves?
- A pair of land speeders.
- for 120 points you can get 3 Razorbacks for your Long Fangs. The TL HB's could help with horde control.

Whats your thinking on the wolves? Beasts are awesome this edition

I'm mixed about the Fen wolves. On paper they seem great in close combat for their cost (8 pts / model) against IG equivalent infantry. But the lack of any real armor save means they'll go down quick to overwatch. But they move really fast and you can put them in big units for fairly cheap. I've never played them, but have considered them as a sacrificial distraction type unit. The way I see it, if your opponent wants to eliminate your huge IG blob, he'll need to focus a lot of firepower on it every turn. If he takes even one turn to shoot at an incoming block of Fen. Wolves, then the survivability of your IG blob will go up.

As for the lone wolves - they can be good. Even great. Equipped properly, they're very hard to kill and can be a tough match for monstrous creatures in hand to hand.

Looks good, although I'm not sure on the DP long fangs, seems an odd choice. Also, I'd try and get some Heavy/special weapons for the Infantry Squad, just so they are more of a threat to hard targets. If you drop one squad of LF you could grab them some lascannons, just so they aren't useless beyond 24".

Ah, I see. That makes sense, didn't spot that. I'd still drop a LF squad to bring some Heavy/special weapons in the infantry. 2 LF squads, a LL RP and a 2x melta GH squad should still provide enough AT for the wolves, and some LC makes the infantry more than just objective sitters.

I would have a Vendetta. Switch out one unit of Long Fangs. They are not good enough for trispam. Vendetta gives you a real power boost.
