first time I had something to say that didn't already have 40 threads going so,

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/Product/DefaultFW/xlarge/sicaran11.jpg

just saw the new LEGION SICARAN BATTLE TANK on the forgeworld website and am absolutely in love with the kit unfortunately its $100.00.
It always seems like FW prices are just outside what I am willing to pay. but really do enjoy the look of some of the kits.
If they were plastic I might splurge more often. titans removed does anyone else have kits they wish were reasonably more affordable

on a side note how much flash is on the larger FW kits. ive only purchased 2 tetras.

holy shucks.
well I guess I can finally dust of my dremel, my last experiment with drilling out magnet holes on a riptide ended VERY badly.

I just picked up a thunderhawk, and I've made many FW kits in the past. Power tools aren't necessary, but at some point, the time you'll save by using power tools will exceed the cost of the tools. I recently got a scroll saw, and it turned what would have been several hours of work with a hand saw into about five minutes of work, cutting the large vents from the hulls and wings of the thunderhawk.

I've never really thought that FW prices were extreme, but I enjoy making them. I like the additional details that they have over most plastic models.

I'd love it FW was cheaper. But it doesn't stop me buying them . There's just something about FW kits that I just love though I have to admit that the new tank was to much for me.

Honestly, I buy from Forge World because I like their models and variety. They price very smartly IMO - it's right on that edge of "is this actually worth it" but because they push updates and have very good customer support it always seems to be just about right. If you ever have a rules query about their stuff, they get right back to you. Recently I had a few questions (about 7) about the Tomb Citadel and they got back to me within a day then said it'd be in the upcoming FAQ. I mean, you can't really ask for much more. Costly, but good.

Honestly the prices for FW are right in line with what you would expect for the quality and service. The reason these large tanks are so expensive is the amount of resin in the model (resin price scales differently than plastic, ie a 60+ mm resin model will always be way more expensive than a plastic model of the same size). I would like to see a replacement for resin in the near future but it is probably unrealistic to expect plastic for many of the FW models as plastic would not hold the detail level we expect from these models.

The thing about FW is, the model quality (assuming you don't get a miscast, but they're EXCELLENT about making good if you do so no big deal) is outstanding, and while the prices are high, I've yet to meet someone who thought they were unreasonable, despite some whining.

GW are very different, and frankly I'd love it if they dropped all the GW modelling staff, hiked prices slightly, and only sold FW quality models for everything. Its a bad idea, but it'd be a lot more palatable than it is right now...

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

FW has much better customer support than GW proper. Evey single email I've sent to them has been responded to.

I've purchased a few of their books, which are light years beyond GW's offerings in terms of production, longevity and content.

However I've only purchased one model so far. It had a few issues which they gave some solid advice on how to resolve. So, even with that, I will be buying from them again.

Depending on what you get, you will likely have to cut through rather large pieces of resin. I haven't had to break out the dremel because a saw has been good enough so far. You will also likely have to reshape certain pieces. Hot water and patience worked wonders here.

Are they more expensive? Yes. If you are a modeler then it is worth it. If you really aren't willing to invest a fair amount of time to build something "right" then I'd say save your money.

FW is sometimes cheaper than GW, meltas from GW are 5 for £6, whereas FW are 10 for £11.

Marine Jetbikes are the one thing I wish was cheaper, £70 for a set of three when I want two squads of six is a bit steep for me.

Sorry, I didn't mean for this to come across as me complaining about the prices. More along the lines of if prices were just a bit lower I would probably be buying a lot of kits.
My wife and I give ourselves x amount of money a month for "toys" and if I go for a FW kit over a $50 GW, then I can't go to the range or buy more games on steam I'll never play.
So I guess everything is her fault, thanks for helping me think this through.

ooh, i sense a story!

I decided to drill some holes in the HBC on the bottom so I could mount the secondary weapons, decided to hold it in my hand for some reason and drilled through to my skin.
I've since stopped modeling while drinking

So why don't you just save your money for two months and spend $100 at the end? Unless you're required to spend the full $X every month and can't carry it over into the next month?

Consider this - for Australians, FW has been about at price parity for a couple of years now. In some cases, cheaper. GW seems to be normalising international prices - using ours as a baseline. So soon you too will enjoy price parity with FW!

True...

I always save up then await what GW decides to unleash, or I get the money together for a project then go out and buy it.

FW are value for money as the models require more work to make them look good which is all part of the fun, they are slightly more expensive but they are worth it.

Of course i'm waiting to see how the new marine release pans out, otherwise I might do Chaos daemons instead if the BT rules do not impress us

Every time FW releases new kits.... its annoying because I have urges to start armies that I would never have normally been interested.

Once upon a time I had strict hobby budgets that I actually enforced. Then FW happened and it was - BUY ALL THE THINGS!!!!!

Sigh.... it is actually cheaper for me to order a FW broadside then GW's plastic kit.

Exactly me. That tank looks the best that FW has produced in terms of an actually effective tank that serves the role it was meant to. Want so much. But i dont play marines....

For me the kit prices are fair BUT the postage prices are little short of legalised theft, last time I looked it was 12.5% of the order value up to about £250. Call me mean but £12.50 to post £100 worth of resin is outrageous. That alone means I never mail order any FW. I buy it on the odd occasion I'm down at Warhammer World, they either have it in stock or post it on for free if they don't. If they would can that and adopt GW standard delivery (or ship for free to GW stores) I would definitely buy more. I've always thought they deliberately charged insane postage to keep down the value and quantity of their sales. Note to GW it's 2013 and postage is usually free over a nominal amount, especially on lightweight stuff like plastic and resin. You can do it on Citadel so why not FW???

It's because you're subsidizing the shipping for the rest of us who don't live in the UK and/or who get free shipping. Thank you for overpaying and helping to keep prices down.
