Hey guys newbie here looking to get into firestorm armada...however am seriously stuck on what fleet to choose...
Im stuck between the Terrans, the Aquan and the Sorylian...so i was wondering if a kind fellow Dakka with more experiance could perhaps point me in a this is how "x" plays kinda way i would be very very gratefull..
Those choices are based purely on how pretty the ships look

Terrans are kind of an all-rounder fleet, they have a little bit of everything, long range forward guns, decent broadsides, but the thing that makes them stick out is their use of shields. Terrans have shields on everything, incvluding their small frigates where as most other races with shield technology only have it on large capitol ships. Their battleships are great, being heavily turret based are able to throw firepower from any arc of fire but at a price of faster loss of attack dice with damage. Medium class combat ships are either mediocre or overpriced (in game point cost) for what they offer, but their small frigates are their beasts. Between the long range torpedo hitting power of the Mk1 Pilgrim class frigate or the in-close nearly battleship level of guns of the Mk2 Missionary class Frigate, Terran smalls are to be respected.

Sorylians are considered to be one the two most powerful of the 6 core races. Their thing is simple, the lizards pack nasty port/starboad boradsides on their ships, have large squadron sizes, and are probably the best at boarding actions. Their medium and small ships are among the fastest of any race, a full squad of 4 cruisers packs more firepower than their battleship, they have good frigates and in large numbers can put hurt on nearly anything. They're fast and hard hitting but their large squad sizes tends to limit their number of squads/activations so be careful you don't get beat by simple loosing out to an opponent who simply has more unit activations than you. I think their biggest weakness is wings/fightercraft, they only have two nearly identical stat carriers, while holding a respectable amount of craft, don't hold up to the number of wings other races can bring to the party.

Aquans are one of the more difficult races to master, they're knife-fighters, best at in close attacks, they pack guns on all sides of their ships (where as most races have little to no guns aft), all cruiser and above size ships are equipped with mine layers, on top of that they're both fast and highly maneuverable to levels most other races can't touch. Aquan strength lies in their big capitol ships, Battleships, Battlecarrier, and their Dreadnought. Their basic cruisers are probably the weakest in the game, as is their heavy cruisers, you'll definitely want to drop for some of their newer Mk2 cruisers in your fleet. Frigates are mediocre, their new corvette might look good on paper but in games I've seen it played in they are just sad. However, Aquans can bring the wings! Both their battleships hold fighter compliments, their own carriers are respectable, but their battlecarrier and dreadnought bring the noise! Great firepower and huge numbers of fighter and bombercraft can ruin anyone's day if played right. And that is their other downside, Aquans with their short ranged and lower powered guns require tactical finesse to make the most out of them along with their mines and all arc torpedoes. With the Aquans you want a board with lots of terrain for cover to hide behind as you maneuver so you don't get blown out of the Black before you even close to firing range.
